If you have a fast, large external HD, why use an SD card at all?
I have an SD card for wad installs and a few homebrew apps. Its my understanding though that I can have homebrew channel read from an apps folder in the root dir of an external, and I can use emunand for all my wad games. So I'm wondering whats the point of even having an SD card? What exactly requires it?

theaero, I'm not sure weather it's a question or a statement. I modded my wii some years back. I only use Sd cards for the initial hack. Then as you say everything else is on the root of my HDD. I use Wiimc, USB GX Loader, CFG Loader, CE Player and BBC IPlayer. Depending on how you configure your system I guess. Read the site thoroughly I'm sure certain things will need you to keep an SD card in the slot.

You can run everything from your external drive and not need an sd card. All you need is a fat32 partition on the hdd.
Some games and homebrew apps will require data to be stored on SD card with no way to configure it off (Just Dance / Rock Band DLC, etc. emulator data, etc.)
But for the most part, yes. You can configure HBC to look at USB for the apps and USB load games off of it.
Just get yourself a nice class 10 card if you need to load data faster.
How do I determine what class my SD card is anyway?
Why would it matter on a Wii?
Look on the lable. There will be a C with a number inside of it. That's what class it is.Quote:

I have 7 pages worth of VC and WW games on my SD card, and loading the channels page takes very long. Load times in general aren't that bad though, not enough to replace the card anyway.Quote:
