    Wii NAND Backup

    Hello.

Question: What does the NAND backup actually back up?

    Thanks!

NAND Backup will make a full backup of the Console's System Partition including any data saved to it. I think don't take this as 100% factual because I never have actually performed one myself but to the best of my knowledge that is what the NAND is so anything that is installed such as channels stored on the console may be backed up as well. I know the common reason why anybody would perform a NAND backup is to make a 1:1 copy of the existing system firmware revision and all before modding the system with soft mod's.

This was very useful on the Last Gen Wii where people used to install soft mods as Boot2 which acted much like a duel boot setup on a computer that allows Wii owner to switch between the two version without actually modifying the original install and thus avoiding permanent bricking even if they did brick the Boot2 install they could wipe it clean and start over or install a recovery NAND backup which gave them freedom to explore with modding with little risk.

I am curious though as to where you read about performing the NAND Backup for the Wii U because as far as I am aware as of right now there is not very much going on in the form of progress for taking backups or modding the Wii U mode of the console I have not read anything about NAND reading and writing tools for the WII U at this stage. The community have not yet finished fully modding the vWii mode to get Boot2 or priiloader working at this stage so I have my doubts that there is much done with the Wii U NAND yet.

Sorry, I didn't mean to put the U in the title...

    Thanks for the info though!
