Question Off to a good start - bannerbomb freezes my wii.

So I finally decided I would softmod my wii, and read many guides on the subject. (skimmed through big portions, as they were talking about a state my wii hadnt gotten into)

Most guides recommended bannerbomb. Ive tried about 10 versions, and my wii simply freezes when its reading my sd card. Did I miss something? Am I doing anything wrong?
Here's the short list of what I did/useful info

-Formatted my sd card to FAT32.
-Unzipped the bannerbomb file(s)(all the versions, as well as others on the bannerbomb website) recommended by the "Softmod any Wii" guide onto my newly formatted sd card.
-The first file doesn't read and doesn't freeze my wii, and the other versions freeze it.
-My wii is an old one. Haven't quite figured out what a 'virgin' wii is, but I haven't modded it, or even tried 'till now.
Its a 2006, white wii, with 2.1e firmware.
-My sd card was recently bought. Its a 2gb sandisc sd card.

again, am I missing something? Is it the firmware version? Or did I completely miss a step?

*Edit. So Im pretty sure its the firmware version, and that it needs to be between 3.1 and 4.1 for bannerbomb to work. Should I find another way to hack my wii, or simply update it? and how should I go about updating it? find it online, or use a game?

(Could I use a downgrading tool to actually update my wii?)

As you can see - any wii hackin guide is for Wii firmware 3.0 and higher so you wont be able to hack your Wii using this way. Have you tried Twiilight hack? Or update your wii to at least 3.0.

You will find here list of games with update partition if you would like to update to specific firmware or update by Nintendo to 4.3, follow guide and downgrade to 4.1

If I were you, I would simply update my Wii to the newest version(4.3) by using the consoles update feature (since you have not yet soft modded it). After you have updated it the Letterbomb will work. The bannerbomb method you are attempting to use only works with this version.
This method is the easiest in my opinion. Just upgrade your Wii and follow the instructions. It cannot get much simpler.

Make sure the boot.dol is wiimod or MMM. It should work.

boot.dol wasnt working too well, so I used boot.elf, and that launched everything. Homebrew is now installed, aswell as bootmii, and I backed up my nand. However, I think the installation messed up a bit, as it doesnt seem i have Wiimod.
I can go to homebrew, and try to start up wiimod, and it begins to load, and then it simply goes to a black screen. Did I mess up the installation for wiimods? and/or how can I fix this?

    Put wiimod boot.dol in sd:\apps\wiimod\boot.dol
Then you will see it in HBC. Load wiimod and install ios58
    Then reinstall the HBC
Then do chapter 2 and 3

I checked, and there was already a boot.dol in the apps folder. I replaced it anyway with one from wiimod hacks, and tried again.
The same result, I can open up homebrew, and see a menu with priiloader, then wiimods, and another priiloader for motion plus. I click wiimods, and click load. there comes a small loading bar for half a second then it fades to black, and my wii freezes there.

should I try reinstalling hackmii or just try to run boot.dol through the sdcard channel?

This is confusing stuff, thanks for helping me out guys.

Copy the wiimod boot.dol back to sd:\boot.dol
That should work. If not backup and format your sd card, then start at chapter 1 -softmoded wii's with the HBC installed.

Neither worked, both just freeze black when theyre supposed to load

    Backup and Format your sd-card
    Extract
    'wiimod' to sd:\
    Load the HomeBrew Channel
Launch WiiMod - WiiMod will load

The problem is that wiimod doesnt load. What do i do?
