Formatting a softmodded wii: Is it a stupid thing to do?

    Here's the deal:
I received A 14 day ban from Capcom for attempting to use modified save data online. Before anyone starts giving me grief about cheating online, The cheats I use DON'T affect anyone else. I don't edit my HR or make myself super fast/strong. Sometimes, when I keep dying on a certain event quest, or need 1 more item from that event quest and can't get it before the event is gone, I cheat to get it. It doesn't ruin anyone else's fun, and makes my game more fun. No one knows I hack, because I die as much as everyone else, and fight the same monster over and over to get what I want...er....usually
Anywho, I was caught! And now I want to go back online without having to wait 2 weeks (poor me, I know).

I've been reading all sorts of info all over the web on how to unban your wii/game. One of them was to edit a string of hex in the main.dol file found in the game iso (which I legally dumped from the original disc I own). Anyway, that didn't work.
Then I found another method which involved formatting the wii, a softmodded one. But I remember reading various pieces of text on this site, I believe, about how formatting your softmodded wii can lead to it bricking.

    *Actual question is here*

Is this true? Would formatting a softmodded wii which has HBC installed be a huge risk? If so, I'd rather wait the 14 days.

Thank you for reading and/or replying.

P.S. My wii is 4.1e. I downgraded it using the instructions in the "Softmod any wii" guide
