Homebrew channel opens to black screen

Whenever I open the Homebrew Channel, either through BootMii or the Wii home screen, I just get a black screen. My controller disconnects, and I have to restart my Wii. This problem has been off and on, and has just started happening recently.

I'm using Wii software version 4.1U

Can anybody help me fix this? Thanks!

EDIT: I just uninstalled the homebrew channel and the re-installed it using this guide. That didn't work.

EDIT FIXED: There is a USB Drive attached to my Wii that stores all of my backups. Apparently I can't have this drive turned on while opening the Homebrew channel.

LOL. Fixed your own problem in 31 minutes. Not bad at all :). Sometimes all it takes is writing out the problem. This does make me wonder what the deal is with your drive. What kind of drive is it, and what all do you have on the root?

omg tytytytytyty I have been googleing for hours. Ive restored everything from nand backup, formatted my memory, retried the hbc install a few dozen times.... everything! simply unplugging the harddrive worked for me too. tysvvvvvvvvvm!!

Dude same thing here i was in the middle of reinstalling everything when i found this and your right drive plugged off now it boots up just fine , i have a data traveler 2.0 Gen 2 if anyone wants to know
