    softmod on 2.1

Hi and thanks for taking the time to read this post.

I have a brand new wii with firmware 2.1 and have spent all day googling trying to find a way to install homebrew without success.

From what i have read so far: Bannerbomb or Letterbomb will not work for me as it only goes down to system 3.2

I don't have the twilight princess game so cannot update through this exploit.

I downloaded and installed mod mii which gave me 3 files, 2 are wads and the remaining one is a notepad, but what can i do with these. It said to install via homebrew (which i don't have) or a forwarder, can i downloaded a forwarder for the job. I like the idea of mod mii as all the files i need are generated rather than me having to guess which ones i need and possibly getting it wrong, but i don't know what to do with the generated files.

Should i do a system update via nintendo, i want to go for 4.1 as mod mii says this is the best but am not sure how to do this.

    Many thanks in advance. John.

    Hi. Thanks for the reply.

I purchased it a few summers ago but never used it has been under a pile of clothes ever since Found it when clearing everything out for a charity shop

Guess i could update via nintendo but i wanted to go for the 4.1 firmware not sure what firmware nintendo would give me.

Is it possible to install homebrew or a forwarder then use the files created by mod mii, mod mii says it wants homebrew 1.0.7 or higher, found a homebrew installer on the bit torrent siites but there is no feedback comments on it not sure if it genuinely works or crashes.

Update it through Nintendo and then do the optional downgrade step in the softmod any wii guide. There is a link in my sig.
Awesome sig picture does not work

Many thanks. I upgraded to 4.3e then downloaded letterbomb which came with homebrew and hackmii bundled. For some reason the modmii program did not work at all despite running it several times, the letterbomb worked first time.

Got the wii working a treat. So simple and easy can't understand why i was so stressed

Just one last thing, on the bit torrent sites there are a lot of .wad games for the wii these are games from the older consoles adapted to work on the wii
and they are quite small mostly 10-20meg. Some are really good classic titles i would love to try out, Is it worth downloading and trying these games i heard they can brick your wii.

Are there any reliable sites where these can be downloaded. I found demonoid.com to be pretty good with good feedback but even there some of the games worked but quite a lot didn't.

Also has anyone tried sneek which is supposed to give total protection against bricking, how does it compare to priiloader and bootmii.

    Many thanks in advance. John.

SNEEK doesn't brick-protect your Wii, but runs your Wii (using BootMii access) from your SD card (ie. you'll be using the SD card instead of the Wii's NAND (system memory). So before trying anything on your Wii, try it on SNEEK to ensure that it's safe. Also, the older games you're talking about are VC (ie. Virtual Console) games provided by Nintendo. Buy them @ the Shop Channel, as downloading these is illegal and you have a high chance of banner-bricking your Wii (ie. No Wii After Health Screen).
Red Wii SysMenuX, Priiloader 0.7, Bootmii as IOS 254, USB Loader GX, uLoader 5.1E with external DVD drive, MauiFrog softmod. HBC 1.1, Backup HBC 1.0.3.
