kinda noob problem here, messy install

first and formost, hello everyone! I am new to the board but not new to wii modding. I softmodded my wii about a year and half ago (maybe longer at this point). I was trying to find a way to get my wii to play backup gamecube games and think i got myself stuck somewhere in the land of cIOS's. I know i probably messed up by reading older tutorials, but in one i read, it said i needed cIOS36rev10. needless to say when i put this in, almost nothing works from homebrew anymore. My SNES and NES emulators still work like a charm but my GX loader no longer sees my USB harddrive and the wiimote loses sync after most things are loaded from homebrew and just sits in a black screen of nothing. I have tried to install different versions of cIOS36 but keep getting an exception error of the (DSI) type.

I'm almost ready to just start over with hackmii and all that. if anyone can shed any light on what happened or what i can do i would hail you as a god!

    thanks in advance.

Follow the anywii guide in my sig to get everything else upddated, then check out http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-gu...ite-guide.html to get dios mios lite working. This will let you play backed up games via SD. Most wiis that came out in the past few years have drives that don't support physical backups, so using SD is a brilliant alternative and can now be integrated with your standard loader.

thanks for the reply, but at this point i just want my gx loader to work again. not worried about getting backups to run right this minute. I'm working on what i did last night trying to find what cIOS i messed up in. if anyone out that can help me kinda roll everything back and start over again that would be great.

Advice is the same, follow the anywii guide. It overwrites pretty much everything w/ that which is included in guide. No rollback required. Might consider taking a gander @ the newbies guide as well.

i think im not explaining myself enough with this. everytime i try to overwrite IOS249, the whole system locks up and can't do anything until i shut down and restart. I'm not sure what i did and where, but i can't get most things to work. i had gx loader working just fine before i tryed to get GC backups to work. i just want to undo what i did so i can get back to the way it was.

I did what your info said, but when i tried to update the wads, i get locked up trying to select ios249. i will admit, i knew just enough to get everything working the last time i did all this, now i have it so gummed up, i don't know where to go. anyone know how to roll back a wii (I.E. remove homebrew) so i can start all over? or is that something that just won't happen? any info is great!

Again, rolling back is unhelpful, and possibly destructive. You need to change your mindset on this one.

So... moving on, are you following the anywii guide? What exploit did you use to start? When you said it got "locked up", what were you trying to do (Cite place in guide please)

I'm running all over the internet for this one which makes this really hard for me to try and convey. basically all in a nut shell, i had everything working fine for a few years, then i got some idea that i wanted to try to play GC backups. in an old tutorial i saw someone use cIOS36rev10. so, like he said in his tutorial i installed the file. ever since i did that, i can't update my cIOS249, and my gx loader won't work at all. there are a few others in the homebrew that refuse to work as well, or like i said, whenever i try to update or overwrite anything on cIOS349, the whole system just freezes. As i type, i am running around the internet trying to find another version of 249 to see if it will work, but nothing so far.

sorry if im coming off a little pricky about this whole situation, but ive been fighting this since last night, and can't seem to find anyone else whom has had a similar problem. just feel a bit stressed about it. i mean, my brain is almost to the point where im thinking about selling this wii to my friend and getting another one to start freash with.

thanks for all the help though!

Well, first off, I'd recommend stopping running all over the internet. And stop stressing, it's not going to help much. We'll get you sorted for sure. You've found a great resource here.

So... the anywii tutorial I mentioned earlier will (among other things) install a new 249 for you. My guess is the guide you're using is out of date.

So to spoonfeed a bit, in the anywii guide, use the Homebrew Channel Already Installed option. Prepare your SD card with files, go to hbc, press home button, choose bootmii. In this way MMM will launch in a way that gives it privilleges to do what it needs to do. You can then follow the rest of the guide to get everything you need.

If you dont want to do the whole guide (I recommend you do eventually even if you choose not to now) you could get just the CIOS pack and update via MMM in the same way mentioned above.
