    Can I do this?

I don't know if this is the correct forum. If not, please let me know where to put it and I will. I think I will use homebrew for this.

I modded my wii about a year ago and it works great. attached to one of the usb ports on the back is a 30gb hdd that I have my disc images on. I have had a few issues but nothing major.

Here is what I want do:
Attached to my wireless router is a HDD in an enclosure. This is acting like a NAS. On it I have a bunch of .avi/.mp4/ files. I would like to access this drive wirelessly from homebrew and play said movies. Can I do it? I want to do this wirelessly so I can update the library from my pc. If it works, I plan on getting a larger enclosure.

If I can't do the above, can I attach the drive to the second USB port and access the movies. If I do this, can I access the drive remotely?

MPlayer CE is capable of streaming movies from PC to Wii, I've never actually used it, but I've heard great feedback on it.

Hope that's what you're looking for.

I'll see what I can dig up.

You said that a external HDD is hooked up to your router, right? If that's right, then does the HDD have a IP you can access it with, like with a FTP program?

Not that I can find. The router broadcasts it as a DLNA device. According the router support I should have a wii channel that is called "Local Media" but I don't. I have tried to set up a FTP, but can't seem to figure it out. Currently the drive is hooked up to the pc because I am also trying to get it to be seen on my Roku. That requires a web server and I cannot set up a webserver with a drive not physically attached to the pc. Untimally I do not want the pc on if I can get away with it.

Unfortunately, unless you can setup a webserver on your router... you're going to have to have your pc on to be the webserver... (btw, most all routers are running a webserver, so that you can access the router's configuration). If your router is supported by DD-WRT you may be able to get what you're trying to do configured in it. But it may take some work. As far as the SMB (aka samba) DD-wrt *may* be able to do that too. Of course, by attempting either of those or by loading dd-wrt in general could brick your router.
