    This will re-softmod your wii

I don't mean to offend anyone by the coming statement and question.

I know I am a newbie to this forum, but to the modding processes. I have done the softmod on many wii's. Let me fill you in on my problem to help you understand where I am coming from:

after countless hours of research and google/bing/dogpile/yahoo searches over the past 2 days, I have yet to find an answer. A friend of mine brought me his cousins wii that apparently his cousin screwed up the softmod on. I dont know whether he did an update from a game/system, or just formatted the memory on his wii. So I get to playing with this wii, and I see it has 4.2u on it. This was a previously softmodded wii, but now there is no homebrew anywhere on it. I made my attempt at completing the steps in the guide listed above (which i've used at least 30 times) BUT had no luck. HERE'S THE KICKER (ready for it???) :: i cannot get the system to read my sd cards. I have multiple white 2gb sandisk wii cards (non-SDHC) that are the one's that are in the wii section of most stores that sell video games. I have tried using my own card that is currently working and I keep getting the error message of the card cannot be used no matter what way I try to access the sd card.

Just in case anyone is considering the next step that I was considering, I thought about updating to the 4.3 from the SM but when I try to, it doesnt allow me to, which makes me think that somewhere in the systems memory priiloader is still blocking it (how it could/can is throwing me off).

So, this long boring message is because of the many hours spent straining my eyes over nothing, but I'm hoping someone can help me in some way. Please do not ask me if I formatted the sd card or any of the other stuff that has been posted in thousands of forum threads. My main objective is trying to get the wii to accept the sd card and I will be golden from there.

Thank you to anyone that tries to help me in advance. And again, this isn't my first rodeo, but I have never seen this kind of problem.

    Hi LiTtLeSkI,

Now isn't this a strange problem!

You say that you have used multiple Sandisk SD cards. Are they all the same model? Try using a different brand.

I would ask you if you have the homebrew channel installed (which you probably don't) but you will not be able to continue with your softmod unless you sort out your SD card problem first.

Has the SD card's lock switch been set to on?

Thanks for your reply, but no, none of the locks are set to on. What i'm more confused about is how the sandisk cards made specifically for the wii would not work all of a sudden. Adding to that last statement, 2 of the sd cards were the actual ones used to softmod this exact wii before this accidental update or whatever happened.

Also, the HBC is not installed, at least that I can tell. It is absent on the dashboard.

Where in the "Guide: Softmod ANY Wii" do you get stuck or receive an error? If Priiloader's already installed, go to it by turning the Wii on and then holding the Reset button until Priiloader appears; then disable all of the settings until you finish softmodding it using the aforementioned guide.

If that doesn't help, check out the "~Bricking/Unbricking~" section of the "modded & looking for more" link in my sig.

I am not getting stuck at a point in the guide, I can't do anything because the none of the SD cards work. Nothing is installed (as far as I can see) on the system. I WAS previously modded, but like I said it seems that everything was over-written. I can't even get the boot.elf/dol to pop up on the screen. I just throws an error message saying that the SD card cannot be used.

What is the exact error message & have you tried googling it + Wii?

You have not mentioned if you have tried to access priiloader?

Okay. I tried to access priiloader and it works. I get to the main screen.

    V0.4(beta v3)
    systemmenu v481
    iosv70

Everything in the menu says off EXCEPT "use system menu IOS " is ON.

    Autoboot is set to systemmenu
and return to is set to system menu

    Good. Now continue following them:

Make sure that in priiloader you disable all the hacks as well change the normal settings back to defaults.

So, while in priiloader, I made all of the settings identical to those that are on my softmodded system that currently works. I took your advice and attempted to disable all hacks, when I click System Menu Hacks, I get an error message that reads "Failed to mount FAT device, Can't find hacks.ini on NAND" . Not sure what this means exactly, but hey, perfect time to learn.
