Is the lan connector a must for the patch to work? I am connecting (successfully) through a wireless access point and no matter how many times I try I am running into error 116

gunti...i was told error -116 is a connection problem. I cannot connect to any access points at my home. So i decided to buy a lan adapter, being i already have a ethernet line running from modem to my xbox anyway. If you need one check ebay. I purchased one for $14 shipped.

hey I know im new here but i seemed to have the same problem with the internet. well i found a way to fix that. all u have to do is set your WII to a static IP address.

    instructions can be found here

[code]http://techforums.nintendo.com/nins/board/message?board.id=wii_internet&thread.id=1396]Setting[code] up a static IP for your wii. Heres how to do it. - Connecting Your Wii to the Internet - Nintendo's Tech Support Forums

worked like a charm for me hope, it helps

Did you have access to the settings on your wii and did you have to do anything else to your wii but connect the dongle. My wii is semi-bricked and I never set up for internet access before and I can't get into strtings to set up internet. Any thoughts.

    Thanks

I think i just went to the connections tab, it then located my Wii and i was good to go. Don't know about the bricked Wii. You should post a topic for that. Good luck!

    Hi All,
What I found is that if WiiConnect 24 is active it seems to redirect the request back that server that returns an error and thus you get the ret-116 error. I know this was the problem because I have an active wifi connection that tested good several times. Finally I decided to disable WiiConnect and bingo got the hack up and running.
    Hope this helps someone else.
    Thanks.

reviving an old thread, but i found an easy fix for the error 116... if your wireless network has security enabled, disable it. after disabling my wpa2, ios ran fine
