    Hardmod + softmod problem?

    Hello WiiHacks community,

First, let me sketch my situation for you.
I have an European wii, 3 years old and it is hardmodded with the Wiikey2.
Last year, I wanted to play backups through my usb since I wanted to spare my laser, and I wanted to play SSBB also through my usb, so I installed homebrew too.

For a while I didn't use my Wii, till yesterday when I got the new Call of Duty Black Ops for my wii. When I want to play online, it asks for an update. I didn't have the balls to do it so I went searching on the internet, and found that by doing that it deletes the homebrew channels and such. And here is where I am confused.

I also found out that I have 4.3E firmware so my usb loader doesn't work anymore. I also read that since my Wii is 4.3 now, the region-free function does not work anymore.

Can someone explain me what I can do best without bricking my wii? I just want to play Black Ops online. If I can't use my usb loader anymore, I still have my Wiikey2 so that isn't the biggest deal.

I hope you can understand and advise me.

    Regards,
    Darkrifle

To get your softmod back, follow the softmod any wii guide in my signature (click the "useful links" spoiler)
Also in my signature is a Black Ops guide which has info for Hard Mods as well as Softmods.

    EDIT: Introduce yourself!

Thank you for your quick response.

I already saw your very good Black Ops topic. The thing that confuses me there, is that in the guide you are referring to in the hardmod section, has a huge introduction about 4.3 killing your modchip's region free. Not really inviting to follow the steps after that...

So, is it safe for me to use the 'ios updating hardmods' guide?

    Regards,

Anything you do is at your own risk! But if you follow it step by step, you should be ok.

Can I use my modchip functionality and get a backup copy of one of the games to get Homebrew again or does it need to be the origional game?

Theoretically it should work but piracy isn't supported here so you are on your own with any piracy related issues.

There is a section in mauis guide specifically for hardmods and chips... using a back up is fine as long as you dont keep it when your done. it's the same as us renting it to softmod...

Yeah sure...Show me a law to support downloading games you don't own. LOL. That's almost as good as saying you can download a game you don't own until you beat it as long as you delete it. Downloading things you don't own does not fall into fair use.

    Renting is totally different!
