It most certainly will kill out of region games if you update to 4.2, yes (mauifrog has a tutorial for hardmodded Wiis to restore this via 4.1, but it's highly questionable at best whether it's worth the risk or not).

I'm using WiiKey2 with 1.3 odyssey upgrade applied (Wii firmware is 4.1U) and I'm getting Error #002 when I play it from disc channel. So apparently I'm missing IOS56. If I don't want to update my Wii firmware to 4.2 (which disables out-of-region play) and I don't want to go for a softmod route, is there any other option I can get it resolved & play this game? No other choice except waiting for a firmware update by WiiKey team?

    Your help is much appreciated!!

Make sure you've loaded the latest version of IOS56.
I am using Cover Loader and updating this fixed it for me. I did have to enable the #002 fix after this update so it may have been this or both.

    Update I used here: http://www.wiihacks.com/wii-games/22...-all-need.html

Fixing 002 Error and Black Screens for Hardmods (Softmods can follow this as well):
Yes 4.2 will let you play the game if you have a hardmodded console, and yes it will also kill your out-of-region compatibility. The only thing that needs updating on your consoles is a single IOS file - NOT the system menu.

Like nightstah mentioned we do have a guide by mauifrog on restoring 4.1 that works and is a very minimal softmod - nothing gets installed to the system except factory IOS and the system menu - No HBC. But it's more effort than you guys need to go through unless you've already updated to 4.2.

Here's a similar process, borrowing a little from mauifrog's page, you can take that will let you install IOS56 without installing any softmod programs like HBC and without updating to 4.2, and should allow you to play SMG2:

    3.1-4.1 Firmwares Download: Dop-Mii_v12_CB2_BB1.zip

    - You'll need to put these files on an SD card (not SDHC)
    - If you get any errors backup and format your card with this tool.
    - Extract Dop-Mii_v12_CB2_BB1.zip to sd:\
    - Insert the SD card, turn on the console, and DOP-Mii should load.
    - If it doesn't, navigate to Options > Data > Channels and select the SD card there then load file.

    Select Install IOS36 with fakesign
Download from NUS if the wii is online
Install from SD for offline install, and extract these wads to sd:\wad
    IOS15-64-v257.zip
    IOS15-64-v523.zip
    IOS36-64-v3351.zip
Be sure to apply all 3 patches to ios36.

    Select IOS36, press A
Select IOS, BC, MIOS and press A
Select IOS56 (v5405) and Download from NUS
Install from SD for offline install, and extract this wad to sd:\wad
    IOS56-64-v5405.wad
You don't need to apply patches on this one, but you can safely if you want.

After it's finished press Home to exit and reboot your console, removing the SD card. If you get a DSI error during this process it's okay, just hold power on the console until it shuts off then try again.

    --------------------
I know many of you are against softmodding, but right now this is the best we've got to get you by until your modchip manufacturers come out with a firmware update. I'll never recommend updating to 4.2 to play a single game, because it'll kill your out-of-region compatibility (amongst other anti-homebrew features), and without that update from your manufacturers this is the absolute least amount of softmodding that is required to install that IOS.

    Good luck and happy gaming.

I got my Wasabi Zero to work by manually connecting to internet and updating to 4.2U, but it seems like its blasphemy to some softmodders because I could've just updated the IOS or something. As a hardmodder I'm too lazy to look up all that stuff. But be warned (mostly by others) that updating to 4.2U will disable the region free function.

    1. I just posted it and you're asking for confirmations? Try it.
    2. No you won't brick by following those instructions. Not even close.
    3. The game's not out yet, has nothing to do with this thread, and no one can answer that question beyond pure speculation.
