Monster Hunter Tri 3 update on Modchip Wii?

Hi if anyone could help me,

I was wondering what the system update will update me too for MHT3, because the guy who did my modchip said I can't update to 4.2 or it will damage my system.
But I been reading everything in the forums, and I seen that it says fw update doesnt effect modchip wii is this true ?
Also i don't know what my modchip is...
All i know is my firmware is currently on 3.4u

    Thanks For The Help !

MHT will update your Wii to 4.1. Until 4.2 came out, modchips could accept system menu updates without any problems. Updating an older cheap modchip to 4.2 may brick the Wii. On better quality newer modchips, 4,2 will remove the ability to play out-of-region games, but otherwise your Wii and modchip will be fine. Right now, the only game that updates to 4.2 is Endless Ocean 2. Use this list HERE to ID the system menu info needed.

You should contact your vendor and find out the chip used by your Wii.

By the way, as your first post was not in the introduction area as requested of our new members, here is the welcome post you would have received:

Hello and welcome to the WiiHacks community.

You have joined the world’s largest Wii modding and forum community. Another guide to the site, that is intended for new members, is HERE.

Make sure you read the rules of this site. There are a number of tutorials and guides available to assist you. Many of our new members find the tutorials for softmodding any 3.1-4.1 Wii and any 4.2 Wii or the full hacking guide for 4.2Wiis particularly useful. If you will be using an external USB hard disk drive to load and play backups of your Wii games, go HERE.

Make sure to either look through the site tutorials and guides or use the search function before asking questions. While the moderators, staff, and members of this community are willing to help you, some effort on your part to read, research, and follow the rules is expected. To get the best response to your question(s), post in the associated forum areas. This is very important as inappropriate posting could get you restricted to the reading room or even banned. If, after looking at the tutorials and trying to search, you still need help or just want to post a very basic type of question, go to the http://www.wiihacks.com/wiihacks-newbie-discussions-forum/.

Well thats due to any number of reasons and since we have no idea which modchip your using we cant be sure if its due to the reduced read speed of some chips when they read a backed up disc.
