Thanks for comment. I will definatly do so next time(hopefully no next time though)
Any ideas about what to do for a drive that isn't spinning. It is as though there is no power or limited power. When you turn wii on the drive glows blue, but no spinning sound and no reaction to a disk trying to be inserted. I have looked to see if there is anything inside not connected properly, bent or broken, but everything appears to be normal. The console was working fine for the first time, than I borrowed it, unbeknown to me with a disk in and it hasn't worked since.

I just had this exact problem last night after buying a known DVD-drive not working Wii console for cheap.
I opened up the console and the DVD drive cover. The drive actually has power, however the mechanism
to detect whether disc is present or being inserted is not working. The motor that drives the rubber-band
belt is working/spinning, but the center motor that drives the disc doesn't spin at all. When go to the
disc channel it says "insert the dick" (Tealc must be lol even though the disc is already there. Hmm.

I managed to softmod it with 4.2U guide by Shadowsonic2. However, when I tried played games
that I previously ribbed from my other good-working console, at the point the game started to load
it came back with an error message saying "eject the disc and recycle the power". It seemed that
the game by the fault (even running off from an external USB) was trying to access the DVD drive?

If anyone/the thread owner finds any good info regarding this, please keep this thread posted.

    Thank you much.

Just an update on my wii issues.
As already stated got disk out by opening up the drive.
So I still had power issues to the drive.
We accidenttly shorted out the wii when reconnecting the drive back to the main wii.
It was as simple as the pins on the drive, one was pushed and touching the pin next to it.
It was squashed quite nicely that there was no indication that there was a problem.
So when we reconnected everything and turned the wii on, pow.
Though there was no noise(pow), it simply stopped working.
So I replaced the electrial part ontop of the drive and presto, The wii is working perfectly.
An expensive lesson that one was.

its more and more common, i deal with a lot of drive repairs at the shop, and one of the other main things to go is the plastic gear piece, because people keep forcing the drive when a disc does get stuck. best thing to do is dissassemble, and take the 5 scews off the drive to get the disc out. at the same time you can check out the gears that it is ok.
