Yes you can play imports after the wii is modded. Just don't take the updates off the imported games when asked.

Use WiiMu to launch your games and you won't have to worry about the updates.

Homebrew Channel comes with RegionFree so you can play import games.

It would be easier to mod it but why do you want to play different region games on your console if i may ask?

Some games come out much later than US and Japan. Pokemon...for example.

well the No more heroes game in the UK is very censored all the blood and gore has been completely taken out, but in the US version its bloody and uncensored.

So what I ws going to do is find a way to play them on my wii and but no more heroes US version from ebay.
