Hi All
Here is a compilation of stuff from various sources that will hopefully clarify some of the noobs Dumping and cloning issues.
1. SDDump will dump Original Discs (unscrambling them in the process) without problems.
2. Due to the way the WiiKey works in bypassing the original drives protection mechanism SDDUMP WILL NOT dump already burned backups (although some have managed to do this the majority of games will not). YMMV
3. Backed up games can be easily cloned/imaged with favourite burning/imaging software on PC or MAC.
-- The How to Section --
clone backups at about 10-15 mins each disc.
Mac Specific
1. Open Disk Utility and insert your backed up disk into your drive.
2. Select the Drive and click the "new image" icon
3. select "CD/DVD Master" and give it a filename to save with.
NOTE: ".cdr" is automatically appended to the filename.
4. after the image has ben created, rename it to .iso and choose "use .iso" in the following dialog.
5. check it with Wiijunkies to make sure its ok or patch it etc.
6. Burn it at your leisure. Recommended -R discs at 8x or less on quality media (tested using LG discs)
You can also make a compressed .dmg this only saved about 400Mb on Zelda TP which was not "scrubbed" and the resulting image worked fine.
The Side Effect of this is that WiiJunkies and other apps that work directly on the image will not work.
Also if you are scrubbing the the discs they should compress a lot more but you should make sure that they are for your region, patched etc before doing this.
PC users - there are other threads for what software works, but apparently nero is good for imaging and cloning.
- SDDUMP -
There are already a few tutorials around for this so here is the mac specific stuff.
1. put all your segments in one folder
2. rename them all from SDBACKUP.00x to MyWiiGame.iso.00x, obviously substitute the MyWiiGame for the games name.
3. use Split 'n' Concat or Jigsaw to join the files into a single .iso file
4. check/patch the file with WiiJunkies to make sure it all went fine.
5. Burn it to Decent quality -R media at 8x or less (this seems to be a drive dependent thing as some have been tried at higher speeds, but YMMV) with Disk Utility or WiiJunkies.
6. play the game with your new Backup.
-- Bonus Stuff --
here is a little automator script (dunno where it came from) which allows you to select the folder containing all your dumped sections and rename them in one pass to whatever you decide to name your game. it also adds the .iso extension so your fav Joining tool (split n concat or Jigsaw) will work right.
get it
here
put it in ~/Library/Workflows/Applications/Finder then right click on the folder containing the SDBACKUP.00x segments (Or the files themselves) and choose More->Automator->Rename SD Backup to Game
Hope this helps
