I have a 4.2U NTSC Wii that is also softmodded (I had to do this to get import games working specifically Sin and Punishment).

So far I have encountered 2 games that won't work. Ghostbusters dies after the warning screen and NSMB NTSC as well as the patched version (even after installing the IOS wad) will not work with the DriveKey and Neo Gamma even though others have said it should work from dvd with a modded Wii.

They didn't work. They were burnt on DVD+R, so I simply copied the disc to a -R and they worked fine. The same guy gave me 6 iso files to burn, and I've tried 6 different games with both Nero and imgburn, tried varied speeds, vairified discs and non. Everything I burn has the same problem. The disc appears to be loading (spinning cd) and then the cursor disappears. I have to eject the disc, and hold the power button to kill the wii. WTF am I doing wrong? Just fitted a drivekey (latest version) to my PAL wii. After messing around with a softmod for the past year I couldn't be bothered with all the IOS and cIOS updates and stuff so thought a chip would be easier.

Anyhow it's fitted and working but I downloaded a couple of NTSC titles (Jilian Michaels fitness 2010 and guitar hero 5) and they appear in the disc channel but just have a black screen on trying to load.

Wii is on system menu 4.1E and using bulkpaq media which I have loads of games on and are fine.

I've read about iso patching but can't seem to find any up to date versions to download. What's the best region patcher to use and where can I get it from?

Since it isn't a cannot read disc error message but a message that an error has occurred I am assuming the drive key is installed correctly. I am going to try the verbatim disc later today but was wondering if anyone has any additional solutions in the event that it doesn't make a difference. Is it possible the 3.4u (system menu or fw) the one in the top right corner of the screen when you check system settings could be the problem and if so what is recommended? Is it possible to upgrade firmware without having the homebrew channel? I would even rent the appropriate game just get it done quickly without having to do any softmods. My system is NTSC and the drive key region is set correctly. The wii has the silver cable but since I read original games I would think that it isn't a communication error through the cable. I have tried Pal versions of games as well as NTSC versions of games with no luck.

I just got my Drivekey in the mail today, Installed it, ran my back ups ( RE umbrella chronicles, SPM, A boy and his Blob, Punch out, Dragon ball: RKP, TMNT smash up, and MadWorld), and they all worked. When I put in Punch out, it asked for an update, so I updated with the knowledge from the forums that it would still work even if it was 4.1U or above. I then tested Dragon Ball: RPK, and it still worked. I turned off the Wii for dinner and when I came back to play... I couldn't get originals or back ups to play. I couldn't even get the config menu to come up. It just reads: "Cannot read disc". Any help or knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Also when I checked the firmware.. it was still 3.4U even after the punch out update. Also, when I installed the DriveKey the first thing I did was run the config menu, but I couldn't control it. There was only a 25% chance of getting the D3-2, according to our serial number. In fact, a few sites said our serial number was in the "safe" range. So, now we have a DriveKey we likely can't return and I can return this Wii, but are there places that are more likely to have old stock? When was the new drive released? Was it August 2009, as some sites have mentioned?

Please help. We would rather not buy a used one from a stranger because we don't want to get scammed or have it break soon.

Just recently brought a DriveKey when i was over in hongkong,

Installed using the video tutorials everything done step by step. I set region to 1 Up, 2 Down for Pal. Now unforuntly it wont let me play my orig games, nor any back-ups. The red light comes on if i hit eject 3 times but then the wii comes up with the message "error etc, please refer to manual". it wont let me access the menu. I am currently running wii firmware 3.4b. The wii was purchased back in early 2008. Is it possible the drivekey is faulty? or is there something iam doing wrong, when the drivekey is unplugged the wii works fine, no issues, once plugged back in, makeing sure the wii/dvd are connect to the right spot it refuses to let me do anything at all.

Basically my question is that ive just installed a Drivekey and im glad to say everything is working ok but i'd like to know if i can update the system as i used to without any problems or because ive now fitted the Drivekey is this a no no.
The software on my Wii is currently 4.1 and its a PAL system, Ive seen the thread about upgrading issues to 4.2 but i will be honest i dont understand a lot of whats going on.
Finally because ive installed the Drivekey are there certain things i need to avoid or can i carry on as if the key werent there.

I have burn some backup games with ImgBurn. I can see the game on the dvd channel but when i try to star the game i have black screen.
Somebody say that with Korean wii i can't access to menu of drivekey because the Korean can't emulate gamecube.
