This week, I completed my first Wii conversion (for myself). I'm working with electronics/electrics often (albeit, not this fine) 20 years+, and I did crazy amounts of research before starting.

I'm using a genuine WiiKey2 in a D2C console (no epoxy etc.), and went straight for the alt wiring pattern. Used kynar wire, and fine solder, all provided by the seller.

The conversion went 101% to plan, very clean job, nice clean solder, solid connections, nothing shorted/crossed etc.

That said, EVERY time I tried to start the Wii after that: I'd connect everything up, the red light would glow. I'd press ON, and it'd flash green, and the DVD slot would glow blue for **1sec**, then everything died. Would require all cables to be removed/reconnected to try again. SAME.

I opened it all up, checked everything again, and thought I'd retry the G connection (I believe the troublesome Eject issue?). SAME.

I read that some people get no success, need the orig. points. I did that, and finally, the machine would start, and show channels. The drive is DEAD though.

I removed it all, the whole lot, back to clean & without evidence, and installed a DriveKey instead. SAME problem as above.

What's going on?! Please help me. 2. I'm having problems with super mario galaxy and I was trying to change the speed read disk from 3x to 6x. The config disc does not work and I do not have starfall installed. How can I make the config disc work ?

I've owned a WiiKey2 for a bit now, and I've decided to post here about the problems I'm facing. I do not know if my Wiikey2 is up to date (v 1.2 on wiikey2 website), but my Wii is 4.2U. My brother updated the wii few days ago without thinking about the modchip. Anyway, the 4.2U update is not causing more issues so far. As far as I've read, the only problem with the 4.2U is that I'll loose the region free thing. That I don't care. I only use NTSC. FYI, I burn all the discs at 2X and they are DVD+R.

I've read that Mario Galaxy was a very hard game to play with chips. I'm having issues with it. Sometimes, it will load, sometimes it won't. When I click on the game in the Wii Channels page, the game is detected as Mario Galaxy. It launches but before reaching the Mario Galaxy's menu, there's a disc error. When it does it, I put my genuine Wii Fit disc, load the game, play a bit, go back to Mario Galaxy and most of the time, it works now. Is this a known issue ?

as for the new Super Mario Bros, I'm having a lot of trouble playing it. I can easily play 5 to 10min with it, but then it crashes and pops me a Disc error. I have to reset the wii, come back in the game, play a bit and then it crashes again. I know that the new NSMB has a new kind of protection, but is my wiikey2 having troubles with it ?

I've been playing Metroid Prime without issues. It really is SMG and NSMB that are pain to work.

I do not have Homebrew installed. Only the wiikey2 !

Any ideas ?

Anyway, I installed the Wii key 2 a little while ago and I'm only able to play Gamecube backups. Whenever I put in a burned Wii game, the icon shows up in the Disc channel, but when I try running the game, all I get is a black screen. My Wii doesn't reboot or anything, it just stays on the black screen (no music, and I don't hear any disc activity).
I tested a few burned Wii games (Need For Speed Undercover, one of the Sonic games, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii) and they all did the same exact thing. Is my Wii key 2 defective, or did I botch the soldering job?

I like to upgrade my wii from 4.1U to 4.2. I understand I will lose homebrew but I dont really care about that. Will my backups still work?
There has been conflict messages saying none of backups will work anymore with Wiikey 2. some said only the PAL version won't play.
95% of my games are NTSC and backup on Verbatium-DVDR

sorry this is my first post, I've been searching forums for over 3 hours with out finding a definative answer :confused: Have not had the Wii out for a while and with all the WAVE 4 stuff on XBOX i dusted it off.

Seems every thing has changed since hardmod chips but i have a wiikey running 1.9x (just updated it) and don't really wanna brick my wii or loose multi region gaming.

I've got a couple of new games Jambo! safari... hoping it's as good as the arcade and Mario&Sonic winter olympics.

both games are asking for an update so thought I'd check out what was happening and it all seemed very DARK!

Does any one know what system cersion these games install?
I'm a MAC user so don't have the wealth of apps to clean these games.. I have tracked down Wiigionfree which will help with the multi region bit but as i said before not keen on having a new door stop as that is where my xbox might be soon!

first i want say, that you guys do a great especially the TuT writers and the Brains behind the whole Software-Thing.

I had read a lot of your post, now i had decided to buy a wii, i will the black wii, which must be the newest white wii, just with a black case.

I had talked with a Modder in my home-city, we said to me, that now on the market are wiis, which you cant modified. He said that I must pay for a rebuild and a new Discdrive. At all 130 €, with all guarantees, 2 year of rebuild for chip and the rest of nintendo.

I know there is a Softmod option, but honestly the risk is to high for me,
i prefer to pay more and so i can sleep better. The brick-risk is and the option that nintendo can ban, is for me, to high compared with Chip cost.

My first idea was to let make a chip, wiikey2, on and work with usbloader and a harddrive. But the Modder says, that even the usbloader can brick my wii.

What do you think about it?

Tried to reinstall rawdump and tried again with no luck. I use nero to burn them. Tried with imgburn also with no luck. Does the mod chip have to be updated. If so how. I'm kinda new to this stuff so I don't really understand what I need to do.
I downloaded "The Beatles: Rock Band" a few days ago and upgraded my Wii firmware (I had to if I wanted to play), and then came up Error #001. I tried downgrading but no use. I'm trying to update my Wiikey so I downloaded the original Config. iso from the wiikey website and the update. I burned both of them to 2 different DVD-R CDs, I inserted both of them into my Wii (PAL, by the way) and it just can't read them.

I have no Gamecube controller, I run the 3.4E firmware.

1) Do I need this Padded CD to get it work?
2) If so, where is the download for PAL?
3) What do I do after I download it?
4) If I don't need the Padded CD, what do I do?

Please help me, I'm just trying to play the Beatles: Rock Band...
