Hi all. Sorry for the newbie type question but I've been reading and can't find the answer to my question, so here goes...
My wii isn't soft-modded (no homebrew channel etc.) but I'm successfully using Drivekey to play my wii back-ups without a hitch but I'd LOVE to get the MAME emulator to play on my wii by burning it (with a ton of roms) to a DVD and playing games from there like I do with my SNES emulator. From what I've read there seems to be a simple way to use a MAME emulator through the homebrew channel but I'd rather not go through all the steps if I don't have to.
Thanks in advance.
You should simply have to install homebrew channel. Then using the homebrew browser should be able to DL and install MAME emulator and use it. With the HB channel installed they will run off the SD card.
i would suggest if your going to install the homebrew channel dont do half a job run through the whole softmod guide start to finish and dont skip any steps that way if there are any problems further down the road we will know how you softmodded it and will be able to help better
So to read between the lines....I can't just burn a MAME emulator with some roms onto a DVD and play it from there?
Not sure if I want to go to the trouble of creating a Homebrew Channel?
Thanks for the responses.
Lol you don't need to create a hombrew channel, you need to install it. It's all included in the softmod guides, follow one.

But I said in the OP that I had a drivekey chip installed....wii back-ups play very well as do SNES roms via an emulator burned to a disk. Was hoping I could do the same with MAME.

Yes you can probablly do that but I don't know if anyone here will be able to help you with that as most people run it from HBC and a softmod. There's no reason not to have HBC installed. I would softmod the Wii with a guide here, then you have a chip and some brick protection, plus you can run things from HBC if needed.
Edit: Mame doesn't work very well for the wii from what I remember, just a heads up.
Ok. Apology accepted....it happens:)
I'm a little nervous about Homebrew, soft-mods etc. as they seem complicated.
I took a chance with the Drivekey and I couldn't be happier but I guess I could follow a tutorial and take the plunge.
I'm on 4.2 and have been very carefull about not updating to 4.3 but it sounds like a soft-mod may make it easier not to take updates from my original game discs.
Thanks for the help....I wonder if I should be posting this in the Drivekey section?
I can move your post to the drivekey section if you like. It's appropriate in either section, just let me know. Having a hadmodded and softmodded wii can have a big advantage so you would really only be making it safer. The softmod process is pretty straightforward and as long as you follow instructions and don't lose power everything should be fine. Like I said, you might be able to do this from a disc, probably have to search google to find out how. If you do decide to softmod I recommend the Softmod Any Wii guide.
hi, the mame works fine, but have a way to load the roms from usb?
