Us Starting into the world of emulation

Recently I cam across the following thread here

There was some good information in the thread however, I did not want to hijack the original posters thread. So, I decided to share my thoughts and questions with the forum and receive inputs on my specific undertaking.

So, here is the list of questions I have before I dive into Wii emulation.

    1. Besides formatting my USB hard drive to FAT32 is there any further HDD prep work
    2. On a PC emulation uses a "front end", what does Wii use? The USB loader to select the particular emulation (NES or SNES)
    3. There are Wii specific emulation software packages however, are the ROMs for each console / coin-op the same across the platforms?

Now that I posted these questions I will begin my more detailed search in the forums for some guides or tutorials.

    Thanks.

Please move and / or close this thread. After posting a putting my nose to the grindstone I am finding a good deal of information in the emulation sub-forum.

Do you want it moved or closed? I'll add in some thoughts if you want it moved...If you want it closed I guess there is no point.

Darkcide666, if you have some thoughts I would greatly appreciate hearing them. Please move to the correct sub-forum.

    Thank you.

To answer your question in order.

    1) No. But not every emulator will work via USB...Some will only work off of SD/SDHC. Most do though.
    2) The front end of PC emulation is just a GUI. All Wii emulators have a GUI already. How you launch your emulator (HBC, forwarder, etc.) is entirely unrelated to a PC front end.
    3) Pretty much.

    Thanks Darkcide666.

Regarding your answer to my question #2. I have seen a couple of posts that have said that they see better emulator performance when launching via the emulation channel. Do you have an opinion on this?

    Thanks.

The emulation channel? Do you mean All-in-1 Emuloader? I've never tried it but it's just a forwarder to my knowledge. It only supports SD loading and the SD has to be formated to FAT16 also so it's very restrictive. Personally I just launch everything though the HBC. There are multiple ways to launch an emulator but I don't believe any has a particular advantage.

After all this time I have finally put a couple of emulators on a USB HDD and ready to test them out. I really had to spend some quality time cleaning up all them emulator files and roms. If this works out my PC based MAME machine may continue to suffer.

    Thanks forum for the help?

    Rogue:

You DO know DarkCide just posted two GUIDES on EMULATION in this section, right? I'm not saying all your answers are within, but most are and the rest are on this site only a search away.
