No...You're not missing a step but you could potentially be using incompatible ROMs (The Wii version of MAME doesn't recognize nearly as many ROMs as the PC) , trying to run clones without parents, trying to run ROMs that need BIOS, using incomplete ROMs, etc... Mame isn't like a console emulator by any means.

You may experience some titles on my list crashing or not launching. So far I've only made it into B in terms of play testing everything other than some of my regular favorites so I haven't fully tested everything yet. I took a break to write some emulator guides. Right now my list shows everything that the emulator will recognize. Even then you may still encounter other problems with your ROMs if you are not using a compatible set, trying to run clones without parents, not using the right BIOS, and so forth. You should probably learn a little how MAME works before you start playing with it.

Thanks--- yeah, i'm brand new to this. Just happy the homebrew thing actually worked for me! Is it Mame that is usually the toughest, so the SNES, N64 ones are bit smoother? Any chance you know of a WWF Wrestlefest ROM that works for the Mame?

Snes9x GX is awesome. It's both easy to set up and use. N64 emulation is kind of so so. Compatibility isn't that great and what runs tends to have problems. Yes Wrestlefest works. That one I've played.

Okay-- because i downloaded the 14 ROMS or so for WFest and put them in the Roms folder on my SD card. I clicked on the MAME in the HBC, but it says I don't have any loaded..... I got the roms from coolrom?

We can't talk about downloading ROMs per the sites rules. I don't think the ROMs are that good on that site or any of the big ROM sites when dealing with MAME or most emulators in general. When you say you downloaded the 14 ROMs I'm assuming you actually downloaded 1 ROM and unzipped it? MAME only supports compressed ROMs and they have to be an exact name it's looking for so leave your games zipped and don't play with the name unless it's wrong.

The emulator suppots .zip files. It was probably named correctly when you downloaded it. I don't know which of the four versions you downloaded so I really couldn't help with the name. You could use my MAME compatibility list to find it's MAWS link and figure out the name from there if you remeber which one you have.
