Playing backup games on softmodded Wii

Hi all, I softmodded my Wii recently and all is running hunky dory, games running from an external HDD. My question though is....is it possible to play my backed up games which are on disc, on the softmodded Wii? The Wii doesn't have to be actually chipped in order to play disc backed up games?

    Cheers in advance.

Yes, but only if the drive is old enough. Newer wii have drives and chipsets that dont read back up discs.

Cool, thanks for the quick reply. Do we have to go by model numbers then?

I completey forgot about that website, I was shown it a couple of years ago. So using my Wii as an example, by entering the serial number I have established that the chipset is GC2-D2E and was made in 2006. I assume that this will play back up discs as its an older Wii. Do you know what year they changed the chipsets / drives to stop this? Thanks again.
