Should I risk using +R's? If I can? (Blue Wii)

I have a brand spankin new BLUE Wiii(serial KU250592560) and Neogamma R9 tells me my drive is too new to run DVD-R's. That's understandable, I've read that Nintendo patched the drive.

BUT, is it possible to use +R's still?
If YES, should I risk it?(not %100 sure this is bad for this drive or now, but I've read some stuff about people not liking +R's)
If NO. what hardmod should I do to run -R's?

I'm basically just trying to minimize the accessories I need to carry around with my Wii(external USB drive)....

Short and sweet you can not use any backup discs full stop.. USB HDD it is for you... Use a largish usb pen..

Why don't you buy yourself a compact hdd... Saves carrying around backup discs and as I have said already you could use a large capacity usb stick which is probably 30 times smaller than a dvd -r

I'm actually doing that now, but I think I'm just gonna hard mod it into my Wii(removing the DVD ROM). I'm not sure if older tutorials are going to work for my Wii, but I'm gonna see if I can pull it off. I suppose I'll have to trick the system to think the drive is there?

Yeh, it seems they just keep the PCB from the ROM tucked away when they do it. I JUST learned that my Wii doesn't have GC ports... Hmmmm

Awaiting the release of some sort of add on that adds GC/Snes/N64/Nes controller ports.
