My new LG 8164b drive can't read Wii discs?

    I just received this:Hitachi LG Black 16x DVD ROM & 52x CD-ROM IDE Drive GDR-8164b

and I installed it into my computer.

I put in a DVD (HP: PoA) and it played fine, but when I insert any Wii game it doesn't seem to be able to read it. It knows that something's inside and it tries, but it doesn't work. The firmware is 0D08 and the region code is 1. I can't figure out what's wrong and how to get it to work with rawdump... Any suggestions?

    Proof it works with HP:POA:

Are you sure this is one of the few LG drives that read Wii games? This is outdated, why not rip the games using the wii and a usb loader or apps like cleanrip, superdump?

I've read everywhere that the 8164B is one of the few LG drives that read Wii games. Also, I shipped my physical Wii back home, so all I have right now are games that I want to backup for Dolphin.

Not just any 8164B. More than one version was produced and with different firmwares. From what I recall, it's not a matter of changing firmware but that there are hardware differences in the revisions as well.

Mine is a GDR8164B0F08, and it does work, but CleanRip is so much faster than dealing with RawDump, get your Wii back, you can dump a game in ~20 minutes with CleanRip versus 2.5 hours with RawDump...

I wanted to backup with RawDump over CleanRip because of the convenience factor where in my dorm room we only have one TV, which is usually occupied by my roommate and his xBox.

I understand what you are saying, but these drives are picky, finicky and down right funky with games. I had a new Wii game throw a error exact same spot each time in extraction, some just didn't want to read at all. So CleanRip took the place of that frustration and saves so much time and not worry about RawDump deciding to take a dump 2 hours within a ongoing game dump. Your best bet and EASIEST thing to do is just get your Wii back and dump your iso with CleanRip, like I said, takes 20-25 minutes at most, and if your room mate doesn't let you use the TV for half hour, kick his ass and throw him out of the room... my .02...

Buy a cheap, 2nd hand TV off craigslist man --- then it avoids the college drama, lol.
