It's much easier / cheaper to get the LG DVD-Rom than replace a Wii drive.

Sick around long enough and you'll see the numerous DVD+R disc failures. DVD-R is the accepted media type for the system.

If it works for you, great. If your game doesn't load when others do, you know what to blame first.

Uhhh, you posted in a stickied thread where any possible question you could have on dumping/burning is answered in the first two posts! Did you even read the first post, let alone the 2 post where your exact question has been answered clearly and concisely? Holy Christ learn how to read and comprehend.

This is the drive that my brother in law uses to burn his games. I've got one on it's way and will be here tomorrow

I know for a fact that this one works

    Sony Optiarc Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 22X DVD±R DVD Burner - OEM

I have also successfully used Sony DVD-R discs that can be purchased from target for $12.99

I just burned a game with this new drive.

I set ImgBurn to auto for the speed setting. When the burn finished I was running at 17x

So far it looks like this was a successful burn. Will there be a drawback to it burning so fast?

Great guide and some very useful information as well. I would like to also add the following drive/fw to the list of DVD-ROMS that work with RawDump:

    LG GDRH10N 0F03

Not sure if anyone has mentioned that drive before but I dont think it is commonly associated with being able to dump wii discs. I'm dumping Twilight Princess @ about 1823MB/ hr so...

I also been researching this subject, I have been able to find the LG's on EBay and other sites. They have all been Internal I was wondering if there is an external model that works . If not thats fine I will find one of the models listed. My only issue is that most of them are used and I would like something new I would feel much safer as a buyer if it was. By the way e39 you are the Best!!!!! You have helped me a noob tremendously.THNX!

I know of at least one "external type" of drive. Actually, its a notebook slim drive that when coupled with a usb enclosure functions as a true external drive. The drive is a GDR-8082N which I believe is listed in e39's initial post.

I see that ebay has a "buy it now " listing for the drive - total price 14.99. I am not sure if I am allow to post link to that type of thing but I can shoot you the info via PM if you would like.

The likelihood that you'd find a "new" GDR-816xB is pretty slim. I have 2, and their dates of manufacture are Feb and Apr 2004 - they are rather old models.

Even the GDR-H10N 0F03 as mentioned by MZR_2NR isn't that current a model, but might be easier to find new. The current generation LG DVD-ROM drives with the GDR designation are GDR-H30N, and I've read that they will not work with RawDump.

If you want an external, your best bet would be to buy an external casing and put the GDR drive in it.

As for the notebook drive (GDR-8082N), I'd be willing to bet that isn't too current a model either. Good luck in your search, though.
