It's unnecessary use. If you have another machine that can do the job better, why even bother? To save $50? You'll end up spending $80 to replace the drive alone.

These drives are getting harder and harder to find. I can't find any retailers in the UK selling them, and there are less than 20 on eBay.co.uk (where the price average at around 50 quid).

Are these still in production or have they been retired, as most eBay sellers say?

My computer came with an LG drive (I think...it shows up as: HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4165B ATA Device).

Anyway, I put the DVD in the disc tray, open up RawDump, close the tray, and it never detects the game. WHAT GIVES?

What gives is that your drive doesn't read Wii discs. Not all LG drives can, just the ones listed in the first post are confirmed.

Darn...that blows. I guess I'll have to stick to the 3-hour Wifi dump.

    Here's my Wii code:

I find that the slimline GDR-8082N are cheaper but as this is a laptop drive you will need to caddy it in someway. I have the GDR-8082N and it fits into my laptop and works a treat, which is a bonus.

Yeahhh.. I am having a lot of difficulty with something here..
I ripped AC using the network dump thing and got the iso, it was the right size and everything. Then burned it to a disc, I tried both dvd-r and dvd+r and it can't even read the disc. I also did it as x1 speed.

I got the IOS whatevers to make it run too, but it doesn't REEEAD. Am I missing something?
My other backups work fine (on both dvd-r and dvd+r) P:

    could be your recorder dying.

there's no special tricks on getting AC to read / record properly. It's just like all the others. If it won't play, you'll see a black screen, that's about it ... no "dirty disc" erros.

    I don't think it's dying :0 it's the 3rd thing I've ever burned.
And I burned more after it and they worked fine, and I don't get a black screen I get a NO DISC screen :[
