Just wanted to drop in and say that this method works PERFECTLY. I modded my Wii this past weekend with THIS tutorial (which is awesome and worked perfectly by the way!) and just tried my first burnt disc this evening.

I burned Zelda Twilight Princess on HP DVD+R's with the Imgburn program at 2x and they play perfectly. I haven't tried the USB backup loader but I did just order an enclosure for an old 200 GB IDE drive which I plan to hook up to the Wii for that purpose.

Thanks again for making these tutorials, this site is awesome!

What do you mean by recording at the lowest speed possible? Is the speed specific to the DVD disc? For example, my disc has Write Speeds: 4.0x, 6.0x, 8.0x and Read Speeds: 2.0x, 4.0x, 6.0x, 8.0x, 12.0x, 16.0x. Should I still burn it at 1.0x with imgburn even though 1.0x is not shown on my disc?

i just ripped spore hero using rawdump2.1.the rip was successful and the iso was 4.37. i burned it at 4x and 8x using image burn as well as nero. both discs lock up my wii as soon as the wii drive tries to read them. i have to eject the disc and reboot the wii. the wii has fw 4.2 and is modded with a wiikey 2. the retail game works fine. i have never had a problem booting backups in the past no matter what speed they are burned at.

I've already downloaded 2 images from torrents and used image burner to burn them(and they work great). But RawDump is not recognizing my disc.

Are there any other programs that work with different dvd drives than the LG? I just need it to read/dump.

Why record at 1X? This is insanely useless. I record at 6X-8X all the time (regular DVDs). I realize this guide was made with a DL example, but still. DL can still burn fine at 4X

    Media / Drive questions

Hi. I've gone through the steps for my 3.4 wii, and I believe it worked correctly. I've successfully burned a couple of games, but when I try to play them, it loads the initial splash screen then reports "An Error has occurred".

I've tried both Ritek and Verbatim DVD-R discs, and both don't work.

Could this be an incompatibility with my Plextor writer or a problem with how I followed the mod instructions?

How can I confirm that I've applied all the patches properly?

Is there a known-good ISO that I can burn to test?

Is there a more complete compatibility list than some old LG drives that are probably not available online any longer? What characteristics does the drive require in order to work?

    Thanks,
    Alex

apparently you had a problem with the instructions or bad burn... did you use imgburn to burn an iso file?
