Burning with slow speeds _can_ give bad results

    Here's the (reliable) source:

Did you know: Slow write speeds + modern drives + modern media = no good - Club CDFreaks - Knowledge is Power

In short words: higher speeds nowadays (like x8 for x16 capable DVD media) yield better results than slower speeds. This is not only theory, my Wii had no problems reading a Verbatim x16 burned at x8, while burning at x4 gave mixed results. Burning these with x2 or x2.4, like sometimes advised, isn't even possible (w/o hacking the burner's firmware). I'm not convincing you to speed up, do whatever works best for you, just like me.

    Smile beg to differ

There are many factors that effect the quality of your burns.....go ahead burn the wii dvd's at your highest speeds....some will work...some wont....most will not last a long time

I've never had a single issue with a Verbatim DVD-R burned at 2X, ever. Therefore, I shall not change what I'm doing.

i agree that burning at higher speeds will impact on length of disc life, but it also depends on your certain wii drive as i cant get any disks at low speeds (x2)apart from verbatim to work. Now if i burn at x4 they work perfectly, however if i burn at x2 with them or any other disk (sony mostly) i get disk read errors. So i have come to the conclusion that it is your individual drive not a wii drive as a whole therefore what ever works best for you keep on doing it.

Ive burned all sorts of things, for YEARS, ever since burning in dvds came out(affordably).

I still to this day burn at 2x, and burn with sony disks.
So far for the wii, Ive made one coaster, but that was with need for speed underground, which I read AFTER I chucked out the disk, that I had to do other things to get the disk to work. (point being the disk may have worked anyways but I chucked it before I could try it after installing ios's)

take the disc into ImgBurn and run an examination of it. Not all discs can be burned at 2X and if you force it, it might not work properly.
