£20 says its a d3-2 drive and youll never be able to play a dvd-r on it.

Best to go buy a USB HDD now, its much better anyway.

put your wii serial here: Wii Drive Chip Database - Serial Number Estimation and tell us what it says

oh, i got it. i will try it with an external HD.

    Thanx to all.

    My Wii's Chip Information:

    Serial number: LEH500482177
The Wii has a RVL-001(EUR) model number and is produced for the European market. The copyright year is 2006.

Your drive most likely has the following chipset:

    • There is a 50% chance the chipset is GC2-D3-2 (v2) with no drive chip.
    • And there is also a 50% chance the chipset is Combined GC2-D3 with no drive chip.

    Compatible Wii modchips/kits:

    • DriveKey - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3
    • FlatMod - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3
    • FlatMii - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3, D3-2
    • Wasabi DX - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3
    • WODE Jukebox - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3, D3-2
    • SunDriver - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3, D3-2
    • Wiikey Fusion - D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E, D3, D3-2, D4
    • Replace with old DVD-drive model - D3-2, D4

Western Digital hard drives seem to work flawlessly.

Sounds kinda Beavis and Butthead humor there.
