Sorry if I mislead by stating DVD-R when I should have referred to DVD+R and vice versa.

It's cool, I just learned something new about a different type of media, I'm not upset or anything.

It's strange that they even bothered to make a DVD-R DL disk in the first place, since it's not terribly useful.

DVD+R has always had a better quality (partly because of the manufacturers backing the standard, and partly because of layout, which is why you get 4483MB instead of 4489MB) and lets you booktype your disks, though it was a royal pain at the beginning since a lot of early DVD-ROM drives didn't recognize it unless it was booktyped or had a firmware update.

DVD-R was more like an "upgraded" version of CD-R but didn't feature a whole lot of new things.

Unless it's a specific application where the system likes DVD-R better (or if you need that extra 6MB of space ), you should probably be using DVD+R.

wow...so I'm in the same boat as DJKrafty...

I bought a 3 pack of DVD-R DL Verbatim's in hopes that it would work with SSBB (since that's what I kept reading too). I haven't attempted it yet but are you guys telling me not to bother with it??

I definitely wouldn't waste any more time than I already have. I'm just going to pick up some more +R DL's and try it with them because I've had great success while burning all of my 360 games. (over 100 with no faliures)

well then i'll make one attempt and if the disc doesn't work i'll blame bad info as the cause and save the other 2 discs for some form of data backup.

Do you have to get a special burner to burn dual layer? Or will a normal DVD burner work?

Your DVD drive should have a little icon on the front that says DL, mine says DVD + or - RW DL

If not, go in to your device manager on windows and look for whatever your DVD model is for specs.

Short answer, Yes you have to have a "special" dvd drive to burn dual layers, but most dvd drives I see now will do it.
