All of a Sudden Burned Games Do Not Work

I recently bought a 10 pack of Memorex DVD-R from Walmart and burned 10 games...They all still work to this day!!

However, I bought a 50 pack of the SAME brand/ same type from Office Max, and I couldn't get a single disc to work.

The error given from the backup launcher is "Identity Error" with half of the word "Identity" weirded out from an odd array of letters and symbols.

I brought back the disks to Office Max, assuming that they were all bad. I replaced them with the same 50 rack of Memorex DVD -R.
Same problem! None seemed to work.

Is it possible that the entire batch sent to Office Max was a bad batch? Should I bother trying to get a 10 pack from Walmart again?

Everyone has a "favorite" brand they like to use .. but it doesn't necessarily mean it's the same manufacturer.

Lots of people say to use Verbatim or Taiyo DVDRs .. for the best burns and less wear on the laser.

If you've ever used ImgBurn .. you'll notice that the Manufacturer of the DVDs are in the info for the Disc itself. While I don't have a lot of money .. I buy Maxells from Wal-Mart. Some were manufactured by CMC or Prodisc or another I don't remember.

Do Verbatim and Taiyo DVD-Rs show up as "Verbatim" and "Taiyo-Yuden" in the Manufacturer ID?

It could be a bad ISO and make sure the regions are the same.
It could also be bad settings on Imgburn, for example: What speed did you burn it on?
Or it could just be bad die, frankly, there are many possibilities.

memorex= worst brand ever :) , CMC magnets are not good dye.

As I said, they all worked the first time. For example, I burned 3 copies of Fifa 09 All Play (for friends) successfully when taking from my working 10 DVD batch.
Tried burning Fifa and again, along with other WORKING ISO's, but no dice.

I burned at 2.4x with no problems 10 times in a row

the dye for memorex is not good, overtime its going to weaken the laser, so even games that are working now will stop working. If you use higher quality media and are lucky it will still work, otherwise you will need to tweak the laser or replace it. Switch to higher quality media such as Verbatim dvd-r, look for the ones made in singapore or japan. Taiwan is ok in worst case scenario, india ones do not work well.
Use imgburn The Official ImgBurn Website and burn at 4x speed (not slower or faster).

Uhh... Memorex is utter crap. It's very not consistent. Depending on what package type you buy and when you buy it, it might be good or bad.

In my past experience, buying singles of Memorex used to be better than spindles since you could get Ritek-made disks (long long time ago). Then you buy a spindle and get CMC Magnetics (which is only good if your burner likes them, my old Pioneer detests them ;).

Basically, depending on when and where you buy it, some days they have CMC Magnetics (works okay on some of my burners), some days they have Prodisc (ugh), some days they might have Phillips (ick), some days they might have MDI (never used them), some days they might have Taiyo Yuden (good stuff), some days they have MCC (Mitsubishi Chemicals, heavily used by Verbatim, really good).

So because it's so damned inconsistent, there's a very mixed opinion of it. I was extremely surprised when one of my friends gave me some Memorex MCC disks, since the last I used them I had a poor experience with them (Prodisc... that's what they use in cheap bulkpaks... if you think CMC is bad, Prodisc is worse).

So yeah, always safer buying a brand that's more consistent. If you buy Verbatim, more often than not it will be MCC (just don't buy India-made Verbatim, they tend not to be very good).

I have been using Verbatims from India for a few days now 16x dvd-r and not had one bad burn or coaster :)
I do make em burn at 2.4x mind but have done a couple of copies on ridisc printables too and they worked too.
Maybe I have just been lucky? because it seems that peeps do have problems with some media.

Office Depot is phasing out their store branded discs. They are made by Ritek and I haven't had any issues with them. Ritek is one of the brands people seem to have good luck with. If your area store has them they are probably 25% off or more due to the liquidation.... 100 for me was $24 with tax. (usa)
