Did you burn exactly the same backup as his, and did you make sure you both have the same region wii?

Are you both using the same type of media?

And try cleaning his dvd drive laser.

I have a WiiKey which I personally think are very forgiving on media and burn speeds not only from my own experience but I rarely see people complaining about their drives not reading backups that have WiiKey. I would guess it might have to do with DVD drive chip as well. I have a D2B and it seems most people that have problems have D2C chips.

SMG works fine burning with ImgBurn. I'd say both ImgBurn and Nero are suitable choices but more people use ImgBurn, imo.

I also have a WiiKey in my system.

Burnt with ImgBurn(w/ Perform OPC before write, Layer Break 2084960 options on) at 2.4X on OFFICE DEPOT DVD+R DL(http://cdn.www.officedepot.com/pictu...1208_sk_lg.jpg. $24.00 when it goes on sale). Got the error when it's finalising. Canceled it out, but still plays perfectly.

btw, The image of SSBB was my own NTSC copy.

I use Philips DVD-R discs and they work with no problems. I save the verbatims for the special games
