I have a game cube emulator...do I have to have a game cube memory card to save progress or can I use a SD card?

well then its not a gamecube emulator, there are many emulators that can be found at http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_apps. But to answer your question the game save is saved in a directory on you sd card.
