I have an LG, Sony and Samsung DVD burners and they all work great. The LG and Samsung are about 2 years old and the Sony is about 3. I am not at home to get the model numbers but you may want to elaborate on what you mean when you say you have tried everything. Media and software are usually the issue. I have not had one failure using Imgburn and Verbatim media on any of my three burners and have done over 120 burns with them. I have not had any luck with Roxio and limited sucess with Nero using the same burners and media.

What type of chip do you have?
Is the chip firmware updated to most current version?
What software have you tried using?
What types of media have your tried using?
What speeds have you been burning at?
Do you have anything else running while your burning?
Are you positive you ISO's your using are good?

I have a the old wii I got it on the release date, I'm using a Wii clip V5+Wabashi
I have used imagation, maxwell and verbatim dvd + and - rs I have, I've tried burning them with Nero, ImgBurn, Roxio, I have done Max speed Auto speed 2x 4x 8x. I have checked my processes, and restarted the computer so no other processes would be running.
and there are only a few ways of finding out if the iso works Is putting it in the wii itself, or getting a wii emulator, which is in either the deepest dark corners of the internet or they done exist because i've looked and looked an looked and its no where to be found. and I have tried burning gamecube games and had no sucess there at all, I have burned serval playstation and playstation 2 games sucessfully. but wii games I can't for the life of me get them to work
and I know the chip works because most every game I've put for the first time has worked for at least 20 seconds. then they won't work after that at all. the damn thing is driving me insane. It has to be my dvd drive

I don't know anything about firmware, so I will need so information about that, and how I would update that

It does sound like you covered all your bases. If your getting an icon on the channels menu then it does sound like it is partially working. That is at leaset a somewhat positive sign.

I dont have Wasabi chip so not sure if any updates are needed. Looking at their site it does not appear so. I am taking it that the laptop is the only system you have? If so probably an external dvd burner is going to be your only hope. I think any new model DVD burner should do the trick. I would stick with LG if possible they have always been spot on for me. I have had a couple Sony ones fail on me and my Samsung has issues with LightScribe sometimes. Here is a link to one on NewEgg for under $60 with Lightscribe. I cant say it is going to work for sure but I would say it has a farily good chance.
