GDR8162b won't read wii discs anymore

Hello everyone,

I have a GDR-8162B (compaq/hp) and it has been working flawlessly for over a year now. In the last few months it has been having problems reading Wii discs, but after a few tries I can get it working. Now it doesn't work at all with any of the original discs. It can read DVDs just fine (both movies and data DVDs) so I don't know what is going on. I'm using Windows 7 if that matters but I was able to get a successful backup before. Is my drive on the fritz? I also tried an XP install on a USB drive with no luck.

what program you using to read wii games? rawdump? I heard that program doesnt work with windows 7.

I tried installing Windows XP on a spare HD and still had problems reading the drive. Something must be messed up but it still reads DVDs without any problem.

grab yourself a USB HDD, big SD, or USB stick.

You can then dump your games direct from the wii to this using any USB loader, dump times are between 45seconds and about 20 minutes depending on the game.

Using PC drives to dump games is slow and out of date now.

Thanks Dave...I've been looking for an ISO I can use to launch the program. I really don't like using Homebrew because it messes with the systems internal flash and updates could brick the system. Is there anything out there to run it from disc?
