Question burning problem & poor quality media!!! (i think)

i have recently installed a drivekey into my pal 4.2 wii, and so far all backups that i have got from a friend of mine on TY (aone branded) dvd-r media, load and run propperly without any problem at all and are achieveing around the 85% quality rating when tested on dvdinfopro.

now comes my problem, i have been experimenting with creating backups of the backups i have and also the originals i have. i already have the LG-8163b dvd rom and raw dump 2.1 so making the iso's of originals isnt an issue. its the burning that is causing me a whole host of issues. i brought a 50 spindle of unbranded dvd-r's (this i now belive to be the first mistake) that were recomended by a friend who uses them and never has a problem with them (he only records data music and video to his not games). now when i try to make a backup of the backup (if that makes sence) all the disks have a 0% quality rating with dvdinfopro, this also goes for a burnt iso of an original. ive used two different burners (my laptop lg burner, and my desktop lite-on burner) and both produce 0% quality at all speeds from 2x upto 16x. am i doing something wrong or should i put this down to bad media?

oh i also use imgburn to burn the iso's and at the moment no other branded dvd-r's to try! any sugestions and should i be re-dumping the iso's from the backups with rawdump or should i be able to do a straight on the fly copy of those???

you should at least get 1 good disc out of a whole lot of burns. have you tried burning something else with them, like a movie or something? Who manufactures the DVDs you're using? This is what I do when I burn -

1. 4x speed
2. no multi tasking
3. make sure your screen saver or virus scanner don't start running
4. don't run other programs while burning, no web surfing
5. verify the burn

hi stomp and thanks for the reply, the disks are totally unbranded but have a MID code of MC03RG20 if that means anything to you, im gonna keep trying to see if one of them works but i dont hold out much hope with these, im gonna go out and get some verbatims to test against to see if its me or the disks.
i have tried 4x but will stick to that, regarding the backups i already have can i copy them on the fly or do i need to re extract the iso?

I think it is your media, I use verbatim and have also had success with Imation, I have had ritek and ridata fail or I have had to reduce burn speed below 4x. I also would use nero as preference to imageburn.

Just wanted to add something that might be helpful. When I have a backup of a game and want to dump it, I dont use rawdump because more times than not, it wont dump properly. Instead I use imgburn to dump and then use imgburn again to burn.

thanks for the reply guys, i been out and brought some verbatim 16x dvd-r's, so far i managed 4 good burns out of 6, the other two games which are backups im trying to copy, burn and verify ok in imgburn but just wont load, it just comes up with the wii cant read the disc in the disc channel (no black screen), and i cant seem to write them any slower than 6x as the verbatims ive brought arnt compatible with any lower burn speed. any ideas how i copy these problem titles?

If the burns verify correctly, then those discs are fine. Ever think that maybe the drive doesnt like you? Im kidding. What I meant is that maybe the drive might be wearing out alittle. Is this a softmodded console?

no its not mate its hardmodded with a drivekey, it just seems funny that i have a backup copy of "a" i copy that and "aa" doesnt work, but if i copy backup "b" the exact same way with the same brand (same spindle) verbatim dvd-r's then game "bb" works if that makes sence!

(and both games "a" and "b" work to start with)
