You just need to make sure you don't update your system with any update that may be on the disk - If the game is from a different region, you could brick your system with the update

It's better to remove the update from the disk before loading to Ext HDD - I Use wiu1.1 program - it does other things too - removes updates - change region of disk - I only use to remove update

Other then that I don't know of any issues with bricking your system from running backups?

    Cheers,

Games on HDD do not store the update partition from the disc, it is scrubbed off. So you would be quite safe from any updates through that method.

Can we be sure that the games we dl have the update scrubbed off?? in any case does not hurt to clean them with the brick blocker right?

Do these updates install automatically without your consent or vice versa? i've downloaded a couple of games, non which have asked me to update and i'm not using brick blocker or anything or the sort, just neo gamme. Is that okay?

Messie - if you are loading purely off external hdd then scrubbing is a waste of time. Downloaded games will usually contain an update of some kind as they'll be ripped direct from disc.

Sibby - All updates (so far) are voluntary.

eh, i've downloaded so far 2games. Punch out!! & super mario galaxy, how do i know if they have a update with em?
Nothing seem to have happend when i play those?
But if a game contains a update when i put in the wii, will it automatcly update or can i choose?

Do i need to use update blocker? I havent done that..

If you are using Preloader than you can block updates, or as you are using .iso files. If you wish you can use Wii Brick Blocker which will patch all .iso before loading to external wii drive.
