Hi all, new to the forum. I'm trying to source a new black LG DVD rom drive for ripping wii games. I live in the UK and all I can find are 1 or 2 expensive used ones on ebay. Any help would be great, thanks.
Ultratecdirect have the laptop ones in stock for £23
DELL M1687 0.0GB Optical Devices IDE (GDR-8082N)
Then use the sticky thread to convert it to a USB DRIVE
Asd Wiidoggii says you should use your USB hard drive to rip games.
It works like this:-
Your Wii can be modded to allow connection of compatible USB drives, which allows you to use your Wii DVD drive to rip games and store them on the hard drive. You can then either play direct off the USB hard drive or backup and burn to disc.
This mod is called USB Loader and requires a very simple software modification in the form of a custom IOS install.
We have several tutorials here in Wiihacks that deal with USB loaders but the principle is:-
Install cIOS 38 rev 14.
Copy USB Loader GX (or other) to your SD card
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.
Exactly. Then if you want the ISO image... you can extract it with your PC using the WBFS Manager. From there you can rip the ISO to disc for a hard backup or whatever else you choose.
I bought one of the black LG drives way back when all this became possible and I have never even installed it in my PC. This method makes the LG drive obsolete.
I have a wii with homebrew channel a.d everything works well, but when i tried to rip wii games on DVD dumper , using the wifi connection then
I tried to Burn ISO images to DVD's and when I put it into the wii , and load it up with either the back up loader or the normal wii game loader . the wii shuts off . could you help me with this problem
like the guys said above, forget wifi/LG DVD's etc...Get yourself a USB Loader. Tried this for the first time this evening and it was so easy. Dumped a copy of Wii Music (it just happened to be the disk in the drive) to a usb stick in 3 minutes loaded the game from the usb and everything was fine.
This is definatly the way to go, dont think i'll ever use backup launcher again LOL
