Verbatim DVD+r discs..

I only have single layer Verbatim DVD+R discs. Will these work to burn games?

yes but A. it burns laser out faster and B. you need to change the boot type to DVD-ROM.

Change the boot type on the Wii itself or is the option of booting to DVD-ROM on the software to burn the Wii games?

before you burn the disk poke around in ImgBurn (or what ever you use to burn you backup) and change the boot type. only certain burner brands can do it.

Well DVD-R's are really the media you should be using and if you were, just download and install Imgburn (using default) settings and then you'll be good to go. Also, when burning, burn at lowest speed, 2x.

Does imgburn have that thing that disables the firmware upgrades in the games? Or does it even matter if I have a mod chipped Wii?

No u can use brickBlocker on your Pc on the ISO before burning or install starfall or Preloader on your Wii. I recommend using starfall or preloader as i can say from personal experience, some games do not work after using BrickBlocker

Sounds simple enough. Which media is best for burning Wii games? I know I gotta use DVD-R, but I don't have any right now. Which one should I Buy? Verbatim DVD-R? Does the write speed on the disc matter?

Well not sure about which brand is the best, i guess verbatim DVD-Rs are good and yes write speeds matter always burn on the lowest speed, 2x or maybe even 1x. (it makes a huge difference when you compare it to a game burnt at 8x
