I have a D2C Wii with a WiiKey2 installed. I had a few leftover dvd+r's so I used them and did not get one coaster. No problems launching from the disc channel or the HBC using gamma or gecko. The Wii drive itself does not get louder or seem like it is working any harder than with a -r or a retail game. So in my experiences +r's are working just the same as anything else. I did change the booktype on my burner to burn +r's as DVD-ROM so that may be the problem for alot of people, but I guess as with alot of things, time will tell.

basically a dvd+r is getting the wii laser to work harder as the data is "harder to read"

Way to dig them up from the graveyard! LOL. Do you have verifiable evidence? I've heard it repeated many times and know that the Wii doesn't seem to like DVD+R but I've never seen anyone actually present any evidence that the rumor is true. As far as I know all burned discs will make a laser work harder as they are not as reflective as a production DVD.

ok chill out from what i heard (and this is my opinion no need to go over the top about this) is that the hardmodded wii has a chip right? and thie chip connects with the dvd drive which makes it better for dvd+r's but for softmodds we dont have the propper equipment to make our laser strong enough so we use dvd-r's

If you research the topic you'll find it is theatrically impossible for one to be more destructive on a laser than the other. As I previously stated all burned discs will make a laser work harder. To me it seems like it's a rumor that started because the Wii seems like favor -Rs. I've used +Rs on my Wii before but I had to change the book type first. Once properly burned it acted the same as a -R even though when I first tried without changing the book type the Wii wouldn't read it. You are just repeating an unconfirmed rumor without any verifiable evidence or validity behind it IMO. A chip has nothing to do with making the laser stronger or anything like that.

What is bad for your Wii is the use of cheap media. If you use a good quality media (taiyo yuden or verbatims with the azo dye) then DVD -R or DVD +R should be fine. A cheap DVD -R will have more read errors than a good quality DVD +R, read errors is what causes the problems.
