    Newbie wanting to make backups

Is there any way other than using Rawdump to backup my Wii discs with my PC?

I don't have a drive Rawdump works with. I have found one on ebay, but was hoping there may be another method that I haven't found yet. Also, my Wii doesn't work so I can't use any of the methods that involve using it.

    Thanks!

You will need one of those compatible Drives for your computer with Rawdump.

There is no other way if your only choice is ripping them through your computer.

I just got a GDR-8164B in the mail from from eBay. Of course, I didn't remember that an older DVD drive would have older ports on the back. I have the bugger screwed in, but it's no plugged in. Is it even possible to get cables that will let the drive work on a brand new computer?

What type of cd-drive is this, are we talking like a SERIAL/IDE 40-Pin type cd/drive?

Just picked up a used Wii.. and it seems that you HAVE to use an SD card to get it all running.. Is that true? I only have a USB flash drive.

It really seems I've been doing everything wrong with this stuff

Lol, hey man, you being new at all of this, it's "all trial and error" as cjizzle tells me lol. So don't dis-credit yourself too much. It's really a learning experience.

Honestly to get any of the letter exploits to run, yes it is required to use an SD card. After the exploit, and you install the HBC, THEN everything can be run from a FAT32 USB/HDD. You might just borrow someone's SD Card noting that you'll really only need it once Otherwise, (if you have an Android/IPhone/Smarthphone at all) then you might just buy you an adapter for your microSD card. Pretty simple... Noting that a 2GB Card (I think) is on sale at Walmart right now for like $9.88

Just went to grab an SD card and they are almost entirely phased out and replaced with SDHCs. I went to about 8 different places and at the last place I was able to grab the last one....

And now it seems that my laptop won't recognise it. I think I may cry.

Again lol, don't fret, we'll get you going
    1) Try restarting your computer
*Note: Some PCs after your computer (ejects/removes removable media), then the driver quits for some reason.
    2) Try inserting it again into your pc.
    3) IF AT ALL NECESSARY, you might look into (Sadly, I know this might be a bit of a hassle) Either:
    - Borrow a friend's PC for these steps
    or
    - Buy a cheap SD Card reader for USB 2.0: similar to this: HERE or HERE
