Didn't have any -r dvds so I tried nsmb burned to a memorex +rw with Nero and dvd-rom book setting. Loaded the game with neogamma 8 and it play without any problems. Next I tried Verbatim +r with Nero and dvd-rom book settings, loaded with neogamma 8 and played with no problems. I have a d2pro mod chip installed, wonder if that has anything to do with it?

If you have a D2Pro chip you can use DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVD-RW.
That is what the specs say anyway for the D2pro, but I would stick with DVD-R.

Yes those are d2pro specs. When nsmb is played on the hb channel and neogamma, I do believe the mod chip is bypassed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Just to add my experience, I am using Philips +R full printable media without any issues. Those are AAA grade, burned with IMG burn @4x. I have a Zelda mod on my Wii running 3.4E soft and Neogamma R6.

Playing NSMB via a mod chip will not work because of the 001 error/BCA protection that is on the disk.
It has nothing to do with HBC or any loader.

Here is a good read for those interested in DVD media. Blank DVD Quality Review I'm new to the Wii Hacking, but not for DVD media. As a Movie burning addict, I can say that the comments here about brands are the same for all aspects of DVD media processes. I have used a wide variety of brands of DVD Media and I must say that the Verbatim DVD-r are, by far the best for the money. Very few coasters. (Failed burn dvd's) In the article above you will see that most brands outsource their DVD manufacturing. Moreover, these actual DVD manufacturers make different levels of quality. This is why you read about some people have luck with say, Memorex, while others don't. It all depends where that "lot" came from. The key to getting good DVD media is to find Brands (Verbatim/Memorex) that outsource to consistent quality suppliers. In my experience Verbatim seems to do just that. The above link also has a link to the best deal I have found on Verbatim DVD Media ($26 for 100 with free shipping)

hi fairly new to this forum but just wanted to add my experinces to this topic my burner only supports +r media so i have no choice but saying that i have only ever had trouble with one disc which was a supermarket own brand other than that i have even used disk that came from a pound shop and they are brilliant. so just for any one that may have older equipment like me lol you dont have to think you need a -r burner because i been very sucessful with +r media. hope this can help peeps cheers

Yes that is exactly what I'm saying, the mod chip does not work when using home brew. I am still able to use dvd+rw and dvd+r in the home brew channel.

    weird burn speed thing

Been lurking and reading and stuff for weeks....all good info, thanks to all the staff and contributors here.
Thought my burning experiences so far may help someone else.
I have a PAL wii 4.2e system menu, LEH271.. with wasabi dx installed, 3.0b firmware, no softmod, and been burning isos with an Asus burner to verbatim -r with imgburn (v2.5) at 2x, 2.4x, 4x and none work.
However when i set imgburn to AWS (max) they burn at (up to) 16x and all play perfectly! The disc media ID code has not been entered into imgburn, if i do so, they dont play either.
Whats all that about then, any ideas?
