I found this thread only after I had already burned 19 Wii Games (for backup purposes, of course) on Memorex Light Scribe DVD+R using ImgBurn on a LG 22X Lightscribe burner. I burned each disk on 1X and of course, Lightscribed in nice art.
All but one of the games work perfectly. Cooking Mama, encounters errors. However, now that I've read this thread I'm re-burning it using a Memorex DVD-R just to see if that solves it.
I love the Lightscribes and hope I can find them in the -R so I can continue to use them.
*UPDATE* Made another backup of the game that would not work, this time on Memorex DVD-R with the speed at 16X and guess what??? It worked perfectly. I'm a believer that the multitude of posters on this 10 page thread do know what they are talking about. Now I know Memorex is not the preferred brand but it happens to be what I have a lot of lying around the house. The closest thing to a computer store in this little town is Walmart and that is all they seem to carry Memorex and Sonys.

hey thanks if u know any thing else let me know like where can i find games ect
Do NOT use hp dvd-rs, they are complete garbage...but memorex is pretty reliable, the batch i just picked up are actually repackaged ritek's, so i'm not complaining. so far, verbatim, sony, memorex, staples brand, and then circuit city brand (don't exist anymore anyway), in that preferrential order
I do not go by brand when bying disks. Most brands like Verbatim, willbuy their disks from different manufacturers which means they get different qualities of dye.
Verbs started off using Taiyo Youden made disks, then switched to CMC mag and also Ritek.
In my opinion, gained from using a DVD writer for over a decade, I have yet to see any dye beat Taiyo Youden's for quality, lastability and readability.
Brands to use this dye include Maxell, Panasonic, Verbatim and Philips plus many more. Each of those brands have also switched dyes more than once.
So by sticking to one brand you never know what dye you are actually using, unless the seller tells you or you use DVDinfo pro.
I always buy my disks online and from a seller that declares the dye manufacturer of the disks. Once I find a Taiyo Youden disk I then look at the brand to see if they have added something to the disk to make it better, like protections layers.

I got a well rounded assessment of what speed I should use from reading through these post and looking at the compatibilty chart which I can't find now. I wanted to contribute to it to help others to make the perfect back up burn. I made my first successful back up burn today and nailed it on the first shot. I'm not working right now, so on a budget and I had a $2, 3-pak of Maxwell lying around of my mothers, burned a DVD for her recently with them. Familar with the quality from when I use to record cassettes back in the day so I used them for this project. The DVD I burned for her recorded very well. Anyway...
Disk: Maxwell DVD-R, 1-16x speed
Burn speed used: 8x
Some people said slow burns some people said fast burns I went half of my disk top speed. My Wii reads the disk like nothing very smooth and silent like all my other games. No noticeable lag etc. during gameplay. I'm very pleased with the results. If any flaws surface, disk errors etc. occur down the road I will be sure to repost here to let others know. So far right now these are my disk of choice unless anything were to change in the quality of playback down the road.

cant return to wii menu
i use backup launcher 0.3 beta and i recently purchased some "*******" games.
they worked fine on backup launcher.
now i've downloaded 2 games and they worked fine but once the game is started i cannot return to wii menu. when i press home button and select wii menu console freezes showing black screen.
this does not happen in pirated games i purchased.
games i downloaded were top spin 3 and ferrari challenge trofeo...
i used imgburn to burn iso.
write speed was 2x.
do these games have virus or did i do any mistake while burning

Did you really use the "P" word in your message? Surely, what you meant to say was you purchased some backup disks to safeguard the originals to which you have purchased. I don't download Wii disks but when I make backups I've found backup launcher to function perfectly.
