Question Problem with old DS - Any Ideas???

For those with an R4 card for example. You know how you touch the touch screen on the game icon but it does the boot slot 2 button. I'm confused? When you go to the DS main menu the touch screen doesn't work. But when you calibrate I found out that the left side of the touch screen it works the right side of the screen and, the right side of the screen works fine only on the the bottom right. Any ideas???? I think a ribbon cable problem might be doing this. Please reply I don't want to do this yet before I what to do.
