3D has always been optional on all 3DS models, you can turn it off and play in 2D.

Now we have a 3DS model that can not play in 3D.

This is why I wonder if there may be games for the 3DS that do not support 3D at all....I don't know if supporting the 3D feature requires any extra development effort/cost, but since they are now splitting the 3DS install base so that only portions can do 3D it is a reasonable question. Will the 3D feature be something that could be ditched in some future software?

You do have parts of Mario 3D land that are going to suffer from not being able to turn 3D on....I doubt we are going to see any games that incorporate 3D in the way that game did in the future....

Ah, so you mean 3DS games made specifically for 2DS. I kinda doubt that, I think they'll continue the way they are doing it now.

Makes you wonder whether the original ds would be capable of paying 3ds games now though

I would have to say no, it would be cool but you still have that tab on the 3ds cards and even if that came off I doubt the DS original has enough graphical power to handle 3ds games.

I saw today promo video of 2DS and my words were only: "Is that some joke or did I watch some video ten years old?". I have no idea what for it is developed.

Last night I recorded a podcast where I talked about several news articles that were video game related, ending with a discussion about the Nintendo 2DS. I hope to have that edited and posted tonight. I'll post a link here when that's ready to go.

It looks like, and is built for kids. some parents are pretty paranoid when it comes to 3d with kids, even when they are >7. This will be a cheap alternative for them, and they do not have to worry about 3D messing with their child's eyes. I personally would never buy this, and rather give them a DS lite, or DSi, because of the fact that it is cheaper, and more compact.

But Pokemon X and Y won't work on a DSLite or DSi .

It depends on how their reading comprehension skills are.

My son played the hell out of gen4 and gen5, so he was about 6 or 7 when he started playing. He wasn't much of a reader, but was able to figure it out. He's 13 now, and looking forward to gen6.
