    Question 3ds Flash card help

Hi, I purchased a 3ds second hand and its currently ver. 6.1.0-12U... Can someone recommend me the best flash card to play backups of my games on... whether they are just DS games or 3ds games.

For DS games get the Supercard DSTwo. Personally I got mine from digitopz and would recommend them, their customer service will take care of you if have any issues. For 3DS I would highly recommend this card even though it is more expensive. There is a couple of others like the R4 that are much cheaper but there are fakes and hardware revisions.....I bought one and with in a month or two it was made obsolete for 3DS (still works great on DSi and DS) and required a newer hardware version of the card to work. Supercard DSTwo has better hardware that is likely impossible for Nintendo to ever block completely so spend the extra cash so you don't get blocked and it also has better features and better emulation.

For 3DS games there is one that is supposed to be releasing very soon called Gateway, I think it is very limited and have not been keeping up with the latest info. It was said it would only work on older firmware so I think you are out of luck on that. It also only let you put one 3DS game on one individual SD card and they were having trouble getting the save function to work. I think they may have ironed out the save feature but I felt it was too expensive and limited to be worth it, maybe it will mature in to something worthwhile in the future.

As to which cards work with which firmware, ask this guy. A 3DS card for 3DS games hasn't been released yet.

Yeah, read a little about Gateway... Wasn't that convinced with it. DS roms, as I have quite a few, seem like the way to go. Is there a reliable web site where I can find/Order the DSTwo or R4 cards? I am searching around currently but not sure which one to trust...

Digitopz looks good... I had another question. I remember reading that you had to flash the card or something before being able to use it... If I bought this would I have to do anything or is it CTRL+C CTRL+V stuff with the roms?

It should come ready to use if you get it from Digitopz. Mostly it is copy and paste files to the SD card but when Nintendo updates the 3DS firmware always check out the cards website before you update the console. Sometimes you do have to update the card itself, not just the stuff on the SD card. In order to do so you need the card to work on the 3DS....you put the update file on the SD card and put in the DS and run it from there to update it. Obviously if you update your 3DS first and your card gets blocked you can't run the updater and if this happens you will need a DS that will run the card to update it (if you have a DS lite or something around you will be fine or else have to borrow one from somebody).

I don't know about that card you linked, R4 is not really a trademarked brand and can be slapped on anything (clones). You want to get one that runs the official wood firmware, that way you know they are not going to stop supporting the card. If you are going cheap get the one that is supported by the website www.r4ids.cn here is the the digitopz link http://www.digitopz.com/r4i-gold-rev...lnds-p-12.html There are plenty of cards that run something they base off the wood firmware that will not run wood and if they dissapear your stuck.

I would definitely steer you towards the Supercard DStwo even though it costs more if you want to play this on the 3DS though or else get an original DS to use it with. If you want to play GBA you have to get the Supercard

K, so I decided to go with that R4 card you referred, but now that ver 6.2 came out, should I wait? I haven't updated yet either...

    EDIT
I did not update and installed the R4i card and it is amazing. Runs really smoothly, and looks as if I wont be needing to carry extra DS games anymore 3DS games are still a problem, but hey, why be picky over something you can't make better yourself?

Anyways, I would still like to access the shop channel, how would I go about updating?
My thought is, update OS and install the kernel for 6.2 correct?

You will have to keep an eye on the website and not update until they support the newest version. I really haven't been keeping up with it since my R4 will not work anymore on 3DS and really I just use my flash cart in my older DS and play 3DS on 3DS. I think they released the update yesterday to support the latest firmware.

Generally you need do download the update for your flashcart first, run the updater on your flashcart in order to get it ready to support the new 3DS firmware BEFORE you accept the Nintendo update. If you accept the Nintendo update first you won't be able to update your card.
