Thumbs up Drivekey 2 and 4.3U - initial thoughts

    Hey all,

I thought I'd post my findings on Drivekey 2 and Wii system 4.3U since there isn't a lot of data on this setup.

Chip fired up without issue when installed. I haven't had one issue with full unscrubbed in-region backups for Wii and GC. Granted it's only been a few discs and I haven't tried NSMB yet. But I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm waiting to get an LG drive to RIP it.

Everyone seems to be jocking Verbatim discs, I have Sony DVD-R and the discs play flawlessly. I burned the images with ImageBurn at 4x in an Optiarc drive.

Netflix is also working fine and I've also gone online with an original Mario Kart disc without issue.

All original discs also work fine.

I haven't tried any out of region GC discs as I do not have any. I would probably just run those through Freeloader anyway.

Here's an update on Wii backups with my stated setup.

I dumped Super Mario Galaxy 2 using RawDump 2 and a GDR8082n DVD drive. Burned game with ImgBurn at 4x on Sony DVD-R disc. Booted up no problem in Wii and played for about a half hour with zero issues. Next game update will be NSMB when I can get my hands on an original disc.

How would i know if I got a drivekey 2 or the older version? I get the config screen np but it will not play any backups...also this is a relatively newer wii console...the red version...will this have anything to do with the drivekey not functioning?

Red Wii = D4 and won't play backups via optical (read: won't read burned DVDs).

What if I soft mod it? Will it then read the discs?

Chill dude. The problem is there isn't a solution, short of using the drive from an old Wii. Go with USB instead.

Sarcasm? Hmm... as opposed to your site-wide spammimg in THREE different threads? I'm pretty sure there's something in the rules about cross-posting the same questions into multiple threads. You have this thread here; an ACTUAL ANSWER (which you accuse me of withholding) in your 2nd thread here. And still a third thread here. Can you see my viewpoint now?

THIS thread HERE isn't yours, now is it? So we have multiple postings across multiple threads --- and includes hijacking another's thread. Cease and desist, please.
