Just installed, seems to work but wont play backups

firstly, lve just installed my new Drivekey.. and have tested the drive with my proper disks which works and loads perfectly.

however l tried loading another game that l backed up, the menu screen loads and l get the start game button (seeing the intro screen music) however the screen just goes black once l click start game.. it was a game l bought on a US trip as l had intended to get a chip to allow me to play imports (and l do plan to backup all my games so this was the first one l tried) but l cant seem to play either.

this console was purchased maybe 2 years ago (maybe a little more) so going by what l have read there shouldnt be an issue, and lve only updated it once (around the same time as it was purchased, so its unlikely to be bricked since it was bought before feb 2008, admittedly l havent checked a PAL version disk yet (as thats my region)

l have also tried accessing the drivekey menu, though l can easily access it and change the options l cant seem to save them as l seem to get the "unknown error occurred please reboot console" when trying to accept changes.

lve just burned a couple of pal games and it seems l can play them, the original ones l tried were both NTSC(sp?) lm assuming an update has stopped me from playing imports, however again l will note that l cant edit any of the syetem settings with regards to the drivekey menu, the moment l clock the save button it give off the error ""unknown error occurred please reboot console" or something to that effect.

then that there in lies your problem, probably. the drivekeys region free setting needs to be enabled to play out of region games, that includes backups and originals. unfortunately i couldnt tell you why your encountering said unknown error. is there an error code?

from what l see it just states an unknown error when saving and asking me to reboot, still PAL region backups so far seem to work pretty well lve burned two different games without problem (apart from the wii controller battery issues as my charger isnt charging properly, lm actually looking for something cheap that provides me new backs as l changed the battery covers and cant find my originals).

tho by the looks of the options they seem to be set ok, the update blocker does state imports only the rest of the menu looks ok its just like l said, saving options results in an unknown error and being asked to reboot.

Come to think of it.. did you set the 3 tiny switches on the drivekey.. you must set them accordingly to the region of your console, that being in this case a PAL system.
If that doesn't work..
What is your system version? If I'm not mistaken, 4.2 unfortunately disables region-free functionality concerning the drivekey.
Aswell your drivekey could very well be faulty/defective. It has been known to occur. If you contact the drivekey team I would expect them to be more than happy to sort you out.

lm pretty sure the version was around the 3.* region, lve not been online with it since we bought it back in 2008.. still everythings running reasonably well at least in the perspective of that lm able to play all backed up PAL games (bar one or two out of 30, which isnt bad) l guess for some reason its blocking imports.. l guess l can live with it tho (and yes l set the switches on the chip the day l installed it, made sure it as the first thing l did)

Check the settings and see what system menu your on. If your on 4.2 then u cannot play out of region games with your drive key

its definitely not 4.2 that l know for sure.. tho maybe the issue of not being able to change chip settings might be a factor as l keep on getting "an unknown error occurred please reboot Wii" or something along that wording when l enter the drivekey menu.

How do u know its not 4.2 unless u check it? go to settings and find out for sure

l have been into the settings, its just been a week since l have.. l did specifically check regarding the panel version and lm certain it wasnt 4.2 lm just not certain without checking exactly what of the lower versions it is (kinda away from home at the moment working :p)
