Ca Odd DVD Drive behaviour post-drivekey install

I`ve recently cracked open my brand new wii with 4.2u; booted it up once to complete the initial setup than tossed in the new nsmb drivekey. Since, my drive has been acting up. I`m not sure if some screws were too tight, too loose, or if it has to do with how the drivekey folded in the ribbons slightly props up the drive.

    1. Upon powering on the wii with no disc inserted, you can hear the drive attempting to receive a disc, hence the motor is spinning and trying to suck in a disc that is not in the port. This continues for up to 6 seconds, the sound then reverts for a moment, 2 seconds, while it seems it is now trying to eject a disc, and than continues with the original pitch of receiving a disc for another 6 seconds. This surely is not good for the motor.

    2. Secondly, once the wii is booted up and quiet, it will not take in a disc. The only opportunity I get to insert a disc is while it is going through the mentioned cycle above on startup.. very annoying.

    3. When there IS a disc in the drive, a simple pressing of the eject button yields no result. Often I have to press and press and press it and finally the disc will eject. Alternatively, I have found that should I press the eject button, then pickup and turn the wii sideways, the disc will eject.

Despite the issues, originals play perfectly well while I have yet to test a proper backup.. Prominent release of Metroid 3 fails to be read and this, I believe, is due to it being a patched iso (as far as I know it is)

Edit. Will have the wii apart tonight to confirm whether it contains the blasted d3-2 chipset.

chances are if your wii is brand new and on 4.2 is that your wii has a d3-2 chipset which means that your wii wont play dvd-r at all... The only hope for that wii is to use a usb drive...

it could either be a d3-2 or d3-3 (minboard) drive. These drives dont work with modchips right now. the drivekey will work till d3 but not d3-2/3 etc, nothing will.
the solution is to either change the drive to a compatible drive, we sell d2e drives. or to get a modchip such as wode jukebox and boot through a usb thumbdrive or usb hdd etc.

I'm gonna go ahead and take the modchip out then, which is unfortunate. Do you figure the drives behaviour is due to the chip or rather the reassembling of the wii?
The wii and chip arrived on the same day, I was much too impatient to wait and check the hardware before ordering a chip; patience IS a virtue ain't it. I'll go the usb loading route and order a 1Tb hdd off amazon, which might I add are going at a VERY decent price (109.99 CND+tax and yes I've checked compatibility :P). BTW the jukebox, if I'm not mistaken, is NOT a hdd.. correct? It's just an aesthetically pleasing device that acts as a virtual drive, no?

the jukebox is a modchip, if the wii drive supports it it will allow games to load from the dvd, but with the new ones obviously not. the other features is it lets you hook up a usb hdd or usb thumbdrive to it. it does not require flashing to the nand etc as the hardware does that. its linux based and advancements for the unit are happening very dramatically. if you do want to install hbc there are some major cool things coming out such as wodeflow. the other cool thing is the ripping feature, it can rip games right to the hard drive.

i've mounted isos and whatnot in windows so virtual drive emulation is not foreign to me, but the term 'jukebox' is a little misleading don't you think? a MAJOR selling point to the device would have been it including a large internal memory for the backups as opposed to appending storage via usb.
i've got hbc but i'm havin a hard time configuring any cios's; in one thread it suggests certain installs, while in another it mentions that "if you have already soft modded your system, then disregard the installation of any cios", why is this?

i cant help you with any softmod related questions, id refer to the softmodding sections of the website for help on that, wode just requires hbc and dvdx which is very easy to install not requiring cios changes, its not considered risky to install.
anyways it functions like a juke box when you connect any device that has the iso you can select games sort of like a jukebox, and now the wodeflow makes it more so.
