Installing a Drivekey with a Softmod 3.1-4.1 Wii (problems with config menu)
I have a new wii to which I installed a D2b drive for a Drivekey that I bought. The Drivekey was DOA (no lights) so I decieded to soft mod. I followed the 3.1-4.1 softmod guide. No problems, works great. I am using a 500gb WD external HD with it and am at 4.1.
I received my second Drivekey in the mail and wish to install it now. It is installed correctly. I have lights on this one. The wii acts normally like the Drivekey is not even installed. Which I am assuming to be correct. The problem is that I can not enter the Drivekey config menu. After the eject 3x method, the wii disc picture spins on the tv screen then I get a disc on the screen with a big question mark on it. It says "unable to read the disc". Any suggestions to get to the drivekey menu??

check the jumpersettings of the drivekey.
sinds youre wii is softmodded youre games will play trough the softmod i think
Are you sure you have installed the drivekey the correct way round, with the jtag connector to the front of the wii.The lights still work even if connected wrong way.

Just wondering is it generaly a good idea to softmod and hardmod the wii at the same time?

Yes, my jtag connector is pointing towards the front. I have the cable coming out of the SD slot. I get the disc spinning graphic but no gamecube logo. I get the "can not read disc" message. I also have no disc in the drive. Original wii games work fine. USB loader GX works fine. Just can not get to the Drivekey config menu as per your method.

From my readings, the Drivekey can provide some brick protection if you also softmod.

Maybe it has something to do with priioader??? using v32
Also getting that disc error
I am having the same issue on my Wii with my drivekey. After sofmodding my system using DogEggs' guide I no longer can access the drivekey config. In my case I was able to do that before. I hardmodded my Wii with a drivekey and all was working well but I was not able to play NSMB because I was still on system meny version 3.4u. After reading a bunch here I realized I needed to softmod my Wii and before I did that I went into the drivekey config and disabled the chip. After I completed the softmod I tried to enable the drivekey again but got the same issue.

I will try playing around with the settings and see what happens. For the time being I don't think the drivekey is going to provide much use anyway since priiloader blocks updates. I am practically writing this off as a loss of money given I had to softmod to play certain games. But if anyone figures this out I am still interested in knowing what the cause / solution is.

I have to agree with you.

I wish I had looked into the whole USB loader thing earlier as it's so much easier than a. fitting the DriveKey and b. burning dvd's.
You can even use Priiloader to autoboot the loader making it perfect for the kids.
My drive key is disabled and I have no intention on switching it back on (wasted money as far as I am concerned!).
